Are you running an atmospheric BOV?

Get it checked for a boost leak, sometimes unmetered air can screw around with the engine management system.

He has and were all scratching our heads. My first thought was something that would have been disturbed during the cambelt service like crank sensor but that has been checked by all accounts.

Sorry to be pedantic, but, I'm assuming work was carried out at Alexandra/Newcastle Subaru? First roundabout is at the top of the road, you could have coasted round it and back to them.

Hope you get it sorted, Michael, nothing worse than intermittent faults.

There won't be a 4th
Back to your car
As Richard said give the Maf a clean if they get disturbed they can play games
Also check your air intake all pipes & air box connections

Can you borrow a MAF off someone to try as I suspect your problem lies here & often no code comes up for this failure which is why the dealer can't fix it as if their computer doesn't tell them what's wrong they can't think for themselves.

Doubt it's the maf, the only thing that ever caused my scoob to stall was the cam sensor being faulty and that didn't throw up a fault code for ages

Would you unplug the cam or crank sensor when doing a cam belt service?

See that's the thing with intermittent faults. They could check the sensors but they would appear fine if the car was running at the time of the check. The fault would only show if the test were done while the car was broken down. Trouble is your problem doesn't render the car in a non working state long enough to test what part is not working.

My blob wrx was doing exactly what he describes, David from API said it was the MAF so i swapped it for another that a mate had sat doing nothing and the problem went away.

My V3 STI used to eat them, put 3 on in 6 years before going MAFless & always behaved how the OP describes. Never a fault code but the new part always fixed it.

Check the plugs around the sensors, may be loose or not 100% seated properly.
Also did they reset the ecu after the service? that could highlight a new fault.

Common for MAF to fail after a service due to it being disturbed when air filter changed
