I can't understand either, I have my own theory that people that don't have the mods declared on insurance, I'm sure it happens but members of insurance company on forum can instantly see

true but if you clone a random car and you get pulled you have no info on the actual owner, but on forums its very easy to learn somebody's name, age, address so your more likely to get away with it should you get stopped.

Take the good with the bad , the registration you steal may have drug markers or weapon markers on it there for youl be pulled every time your seen .... Personally I hide mine because I don't want people stealing photos of my car and they look daft if they steal a photo with the reg blurred out

most cars are cloned by stealing the actual plate from the car whilst it is parked, and most are of run of the mill cars in the most common colour. This way the cloned cars blend into the crowd

One reason why I do this; I make it a general habit to never show anything that personally identifies me publically on the internet, the car reg is one thing amongst many other things that personally identifies me (private plate).
Think of it as being ex-directory and ticking the opt-out boxes for junk mail
The internet is full of weird folk. So its just a preventative measure to avoid any future aggravation.

I never bother, mainly because I haven't got a bloody clue how to do it....lol...
I have had a car of mine cloned before though. It was a 406coupe I had a few years ago, apparently a car displaying the same plate, same make, model and colour was stopped up north for drug offences. Don't know how they got my plate as that car was never on the Internet.

i used to do it out of habit, as a few of the other clubs i was a member of made it a rule. now in my opinion if they want to clone the car they will! although Ali-b's statement make sense though

Imagine that they maimed someone and ended up being personally liable for a claim into the millions, all because of some non standard alloy wheels or similar. It's just not worth the gamble.
Insurers will do anything they can to avoid paying out. You have to tell them everything so they have no excuse if the time comes that you need them.

We had our mk4 escort clowned and wad used in a smash and grab up north. Police, cid all came knocking at the door.
Our car wasnt damaged and they wanted to know where we had been. Have you any witnesses to back up.
Didnt go down well when we told them were at a police officers party.

Re insurance, I mentioned a few mods that the insurance company just werent bothered about (Poly Bushes and ARB`s),
how many JDM cars are mapped for UK fuel and people still say they are standard ?
Liverpool Vic used to class a panel filter as a engine mod, which is fair enough but once the engine was classed as modified you were allowed to do anything to that engine, its how I used to insure the NOS on the road.
