Default Halfords bulbs

Currently in search of some new bulbs for my blob, got a set of HID sat at home but will not fit them to this car as I cba with the police attention,

As I have a trade card bulbs don't cost that much, what is my best option to go for to get more light I have previously had 90% but that was back in 2008 then I had ultra blue 80watts in my main beam, and they were good but not so for H1 output

I've got the super brilliance ones, they're pretty good... Black packaging, blue tinted ring around the top of the bulb, very good light output.

Just don't get the HID effect ones, they look cool but by christ they're awful.

Just been in there to get some bulbs for my sister.
There premier range is pretty good and very bright, expensive though. Each bulb is £29, however get there quick as its buy one get one free at the minute.

And trade card won't work as they are already on special offer, I tried....

dont let those monkeys do it. on the blobeye the only way to get at the bulbs properly is to remove the headlight.

this involves removing the grill and undoing 3 bolts

Agreed; someone I know does it without removing their headlamps but I think they must have womens hands!

To the OP - why not just fit HID's?
If you don't run the ridiculous blue ones and just go for 4300k white, you shouldn't get much grief. I've been running mine for 3 months now without any issues, and ran a previous set same shade for over 4 years.
Never got pulled once.

Get osram nightbreakers they are good, they do not last as long as standard bulbs but thats what you get (twice as bright, twice as hot, half the life).

We sell them at my place of work I think im right in saying the retail is about £25 but thats for two of them, I think "90%" is optimistic but they are an improvement over standard halogen bulbs.

Afaik that's been the way for the last few years and isn't a recent thing. My old car and new car, both retro-fitted with HID kits, both sailed through the last two MOT's (2 different centres) without an issue.
I suspect its because the bulbs were white not blue.
Or the testers don't care lol.

I'm a big fan of OSRAM Nightbreakers.

I would recommend get the PLUS version as these are the latest version used.

I used to use the Halfords Super Brilliance and even though at first they are good after a while they faded and fast.

Other thing I noticed was the halfords bulbs used to blow my fuses a lot.

I looked into this and found out even though they are stamped by GE they are made by a Chinese company and badged under ge for EU resale. So you think you are putting in a 55w but could be a 65w hence the fuses blowing.

I've used OSRAM now for the past 3 years and won't use anything else. I've got a full set of OSRAM in my car except the indicators ( Silvertec)

Sides - OSRAM blues
Driving - OSRAM Nightbreakers Plus
Main Beam - OSRAM Blues

It's a great combo and use them in the wife's focus that work even better as the reflectors seem better.

A friend of mine had the Phillips equivalent and the OSRAMS gave better light.

I also change my bulbs every 6 months but that's personally my choice.

I've had my Hids sat in my garage since 2007 still boxed up as I got put of by some of them on the road creating more glare than light for driving.

I believe this law is coming in next year. Level adjustment and washers will be required.

Officially, washers are already required for all cars fitted with HIDs from what my tester said. Still passed it though lol.

Just been doing a bit of reading regarding the rules.
Apparenty if the car has auto level feature and/or washers as standard then they must work to pass the MOT, if the car has HID but no auto level and/or washers as standard then there's no problem.

Hi Has anybody used the halfords £6:99 (i think) fitting service?, on a blobeye imparticular? At first look that is a bit steep to fit a bulb but to get one into my blob I think I'd be getting my money's worth! Just wondering if when faced with the grill and headlight unit removal that there fitting service doesn't stretch that far
