Default Eclipse performance vs Perrin

Hi all I have finally sorted the issue of why my car was struggling to get past 5k rpm...to put it quite simply, my rather poor fitting eclipse performance pipe just wasn't thick/strong enough to hold it's shape under hard boost. My car is only running 1.3 bar on a td04 turbo but it just wasn't up to the job. I replaced it today with the second hand Perrin inlet that scoobyspares had on here.

Even before fitting, it's obvious that he eclipse unit is lacking in thickness and strength compared to the Perrin alternative, now I have fitted it my car happily revs up to the redline without the issue of it collapsing in on it's self. The one thing that the eclipse did come out on top on was the aluminium fitting used to connect the pipe to the accordian section of the air box. I removed the Perrin coupler as it started to deform when tightened onto so I replaced it with the eclipse one and all is now good.

In summary this is not a bashing, more just information to help people make an informed decision. This part may well be ok for a car running a standard boost setup but I can't confirm this.

Not the first time ive heard their intake pipe is sh*t.

I've read it on here before too, think they came back and said they were working on a new design or something.

But didn't they also say that they are running one on their 450bhp Subaru?

Hi 6volt. Its unusual to hear that. We have them on many cars running up to 400bhp without any issues at all.

Our Stage 1 hoses actually have 1 extra layer than other similar hoses, we showed this on a thread the other day here... https://www.scoobynet.com/showthread...6#post10837116

We now do a Stage 2 inlet pipe which has the extra reinforcement which makes it virtually unsquashable! You would need to stand on it to get it to close, and even then I'm not convinced you would flatten it. We have tested it to 550bhp and 1.8 bar boost and it didn't falter at all. Its about half the price of a Perrin hose at £129 (£119 to Scoobynet menbers!) We reccomend them for cars running 1.2 bar and above so mabe it would have been better suited for your car.

I would have suggested you could send back your origonal hose and do an exchange however you sound like you are sorted now with the Perrin hose.

the bottom radiator hose on the silicone pipes is very poor fitment too. seen 3 hoses the same now and all identical.

Thank you for the offer of an exchange but I dont think I would have wanted to fit another after having to cut about and inch off of the end fitting to the turbo and a good 3 inches off the end fitting to the aribox in order for the accordion pipe to fit without being squashed, further more I had to chop a section of pipe off to fit one of the lines running from next to the recirc pipe....as I said earlier, not a bash but I just found this particular item to be sub standard.

Take it the air filter definitely wasn't blocked either?

Not defending op or eclipse
I wasn't over exited about the thickness & over flexibility of 1 I fitted to my hawk , however I have no issues regarding collapse
As for cutting & chopping / nope
Solid fit - you sure you had the correct pipe

Ps dosnt really matter as ur sorted now , so all is good

Nope the air box wasn't blocked and it was the right pipe
