Absolutely gutted :(
Well i got awoken this morning to my old dear screaming up the stair the words that you never want to hear "ALLAN SOMEONE HAS JUST CRASHED INTO YOUR CAR" !!!!!!!!!!
So i fling on last nights gear and head outside to find the utter stupidity of a neighbor who has forgot to pull his PARKbrake on resulting in his ****ty Renault pilling into the side of my 1month old '97 Type R Mad is the polite word for how i was feeling at this point.
The extent of the damage looks to just be a definite new door and wing, possibly some damage to the door hinge mounts and both my alloys due to it actually being nudged about 2 foot into the curb.!!!
NOW the guy comes out and obviously accepts full liability but my worry is that the parts are going to be very expensive and the insurance company are going to want to write the car off!
What im wanting to know is are the type r wings and door the same as other impreza's IE wagons or sports or any other model? Also any advise on what to do now cause im truly gutted.
Thanks,
Allan

I've gone through similar myself.
Preparation is key when the insurance assessor comes along.
1. Make sure it's gleaming and you can point out all damage caused.
2. Have photos ready of what it was like prior to the accident.
3. Starting printing off adds of Type R's that are being sold for in excess of about £7k
4. Ring around Subaru dealers to find who can provide the parts, i found that there were only some that would order in the Jap only parts i.e splitter and fog light covers.
5. Hire car - Demand like for like unless you're happy in a corsa.
6. Try and find some body shops in your area that you're happy with and get some quotes. The insurance company will want to take it to one of there "Specialist locations". These companies are not use to working on cars like yours.
Hope this all helps.

Beat of luck, but insurers will want to use genuine new parts, which for an import Impreza will not be cheap. As above, push for hire car ASAP and repairs at your garage of choice. I hope you're not with CIS who I was when a car of mine was written off last year. Christ they were ****!

Thanks guys i will be pushing to get it done at the local toyota garage as i know the guys in there pretty well. As for a courtesy car im pushing for that first thing on monday morning.
Ive already started printing off loads of mint type r adverts above 6k.
As for getting him to pay i dont fancy due to whats already been mentioned, If the chassis is damaged then i would be pretty screwed.
Not sure why but i went to start it there and it wont fire then when i take the key out all together the fuel pump is still running

Regarding the statement above about the Hire Car and get like for like ..... this simply does not happen. You will and should be offered a vehicle which will enable you to carry out your regular routine (this does not include rallying - nor driving around at speed). If a Corsa fits then thats their obligation.
Other than that, a 97 Impreza ain't worth much ..... I know it's a Type R - but, unless you have agreed value, I doubt the Insurance will see it as anything special at all - therefore write it off.
The good news is that you can buy it off them for next to nothing and fix it yourself.
I just hope that, if you think it is special and valuable, that you have agreed value and not just the market value of a 97 Impreza Turbo .... which is about 50p sadly.

Without getting into an argument....
I was initially given a 1.2 Astra. I rang them and queried it as i was without my pride and joy, a group 20 insurance car. The following day a brand new C Class with AMG pack was on the drive with an appology that they could only give me a sports prestige.
As for the value. The insurance assessor on his initial visit complemented me on the condition of my car. My car was taken away and returned. I wasn't happy with the work carried out and contacted them. The insurance assessor returned. We got into conversation and what i wasn't initially informed of was my car had been valued at £1500. Hence the work that was carried out was kept to a budget. This is when i supplied him with the current adds and links to this and other websites to assist with his valuation.
The car was collected and the work was completed to a fantastic standard. This time i was given a new BMW 325 hard soft top. The owner of the car repair centre informed me that the car had been initially been valued at £1500. On its return there was a value of closer to £6k which is why the work was carried out.
I have an agreed value with my insurance company of £7.5k. It made no difference to the claim what soever. It was only me questioning and backing up my arguments which assisted.

Some insurance company's do not insist on genuine parts
If you really want to keep the car , haggle with them
if it saves them money and you get to keep you're car
also don't forget a hire car can be added to the total outlay of the claim and can be taken into account when writing off a vehicle

I should have said genuine or new pattern parts - i.e. they don't (as far as I'm aware) go to a breakers and get s/h bits My mistake.

But don't forget it will most probably be on the register , so the future resale may be affected

It depends how much you like or want to keep you're car
Just pointing out that if it is on the register the grand you save and put in you're back pocket could possibly be lost come resale time

Gutted for you, as i see you've not long had the car.
I'm in Alexandria and a panel beater to trade and dabble a bit in Scoobs . I've been advised lately you can ask the garage doing the work to ask the insurance company, if they can use secondhand parts. That would keep the costs down and therefore not write it off...besides you can always argue you don't want it written off in the first place.

My bro did a Celica a while back and used some second hand parts

Thanks for everyone's input on this, All has worked out just dandy
Currently driving a 62plate c180 Mercedes as a courtesy car and my car is being repaired this week at the cost of £2600 all at the expense of the guys insurance.
It's called the non-fault route and means that you basically need to be left with the car as it was before the accident due to you being at no fault.
Cheers,
Allan
