Who Runs E-BAY turbos
As per title really
Who is running a ebay turbo - pref the TD05 20G model
The seller on ebay is reasuring me that the turbo will be fit for the job etc etc etc but im still not sure wether to buy a second hand sc40 for £700 or a brand new ebay for £250
The car will only be used on track so normal driving issues dont worry me
It will be going on a classic
Any first hand advice would be good - (p.s my old 200sx turbo was never this hard )

it all depends
i and others have run them in the past
sometimes they come with dodgy actuators , sometimes they come with poor casted parts such as the compressor etc , mostly on nissan turbos etc ive dealt with , i even had one that had no play etc what so ever , the wheels were fine yet when it spooled it squeeled like a ***** f****r
they tend not to make anywhere near the claimed output either , this is one thing i know for sure
all in all its a risk , if it breaks etc you have to wonder about the extra cost incured with it , twice ive fitted them to nissans myself ( not counting the times i know of others using them ) one was on an sr20 that didnt produce anywhere near the claimed output and made funny noises etc the other was a gt35 copy which did make over 500 and i believe the turbo has changed hands now and is still running
chance you take , everytime i have fitted them i always use a sheet of mesh to stop anything that has the potential to pass through the ic etc , not the best idea but tbh neither is fitting a turbo that is unknown so from that point of view , if you aint bothered about quality of the turbo itsself then its worth doing
all in all for the hassle that could or may come along with it ie replacing parts that are substandard etc , ud be best to just shell out on a second hand good turbo in the first place , it will save time and prob work out the same in the end but m uch more reliable and a better result performance wise

the only turbo manufacturer that i have had any joy with from ebay is kinugawa turbo
i have used a t25 turbo from them and also had replacement parts for a greddy t67 25g which included a full rebuld kit and a main shaft with exhaust wheel
all parts were really well made , fitted no prob and lasted the course

As Above they seem to make more of a effort when balancing and putting there turbo chargers together,I have not had one personally but a good mate of mine got one for his classic impreza wrx and it drove nice and spooled up and came on boost as it should.I will give him a bell and see if he has still got it on his car and let you know.

below is the reply i got from the seller
Hi Sir,
Good day!
This turbo can run MAX 420HP. Please don't worry about it, we have more than 10 years' manufacturing experience of these turbos. And we know every detailed part of the turbo You can also check our feedback, which shows the satisfaction of our customers.
The housing is made from good material. We use the Germany balance machine and our turbochargers are twice balanced in manufacturing, in shaft wheel and cartridge. Our shaft wheel is made from sterling moly alloy steel, it's very durable and fireresistant.
The price for this item is 229GBP, free shipping to UK. We have this turbo in stock in UK, so there is no import tax. Your order will be shipped out in 1 business day after payment received, and the delivery will take around 2-4 business days.
If there is anything we can help you, please feel free to contact us.
Kind regards,
Howard

i have also being looking at the above turbo and have also being wondering how good they really are so this thread is turning out quite useful its ok people saying buy a scooby clinic turbo etc but as with anything it doesnt matter who made it they can all go wrong! i understand reputation and build quality go a long way but if no one tries them how can they get that rep for being good quality in the first place!

I think it's the dirt cheap sub £300 turbos that are the danger zone!

From his previous posts, the car is a 95wrx running standard gearbox, the engine has been rebuilt but spec is unknown and the shall be going out on track.
I would recommend uprating the brakes and suspension first along with the gearbox before you even think about strapping a bigger turbo on

Thanks for all the replies guys
The spec of the engine is
Std size bore block
Acl race bearings
Andrew Williams forged rods
Wiesco forged pistons
Arp head studs
Updated sti v4 heads
Mocol oil pump
Metal head gasket
Lightweight pulleys
All fuelling will be coming next
K-sport coil overs
Also brakes will be changed for brembos etc
Plan is to poly bush all underneath and do some hill climbs and track days untill I can develop the car further for a proper series
Hence why getting the cheaper turbo now for track days etc
I will apologise now for how this is spelt as my phone seems to do most of it for me :-(

There was an interesting on NASIOC about this around 2 months ago.
A fair few guys were really liking the Kinugawa Turbos, even one tuner said he had great reults with them.
Would be good to here from some of our tuners...

These Kinugawa units seem to be very good though
Im hearing some good reports about them

Buy cheap: pay twice. Simple as!
Quality turbos don't come cheap.
At best, it won't make anywhere near the expected power!
Go for an SC40. Job done!
