Default engine oil

Hi guys, my question is ive not long got my scooby the last owner hasnt changed the oil for about 4 months he has been using shell helix that is all the has been used in it after looking through the service history do i keep using it or should i change to a different type

They can give you some advice, or do a search for oilman on here

You sound concerned about the oil not being changed for 4 months? Unless he did 10,000miles plus during that time, there's not really a problem.
Shell Helix is fine but it's quite ok to change to something else.

Thanks JohnD i was a bit concerned about it this is my first scooby and i didnt know how often the oil needs to be changed i had a Renault 5 Gt turbo used to change the oil every 3000 miles on that so was unsure but you have help me many thanks

i changed my oil was ok for 1 day now have got a problem since i have changed the oil from start up for a few seconds it sounds like there is no oil in the heads briefly like a tapping sound then it goes not only that when i put my foot down a bit and take my foot off the throttle in 2nd for instance i get a strange tapping noise but when im driving slowly it doesnt happen only been like it since i changed the oil it is filled to the right amount checked it a few times pretty pi**ed off about it not had my scooby that long any ideas?

What viscosity oil did you use ?

Did you disconnect the crank sensor and crank it before starting it after the oil change?

Hi there it is 5w-30 and no i didnt disconnect the crank sensor after i changed the oil didnt realise i had to knowing my luck ive done something bad

Im really p***ed off think it has spun a bearing i only bought it on thursday awell

Ignore the Crank Sensor Disconnect bollox ... as that's what it is.

A Scooby is a car, like any other - it has an Engine which simply needs Servicing - albeit at 6 months intervals .......

If you have changed the oil before on any other car, you haven't caused any damage by doing what you have done ... so, relax.

well yeah that thought did cross my mind i never had to do that with any of my other cars ive had plus im quite handy with spanners but im about 95% sure it has spun a bearing since i changed the oil well angry right now
