Question

Got an MY01 that's been run on normal unleaded, and stated running it on super. Asked my dealer to do an ECU reset when I put it in for a service and he told me there was no need to do this as the ECU will adjust itself. Given what I've read here, this is not true for older models. Anyone know if it is different for the MY01? Will the ECU adjust itself?

As I understand it, ECU reset is only of use if your car has been running 95RON for many months/years.....since the ECU works out averages of the octane of petrol used and adjusts the timing accordingly. With a MY01 - presuming its not that old (!) - I'd just simply start putting 97RON in it now & within a few tanks of fuel it'll back to normal .........

Good luck,

The ECU in the phase 2 engines (99MY on, inc 01MY), adjusts itself a lot quicker than the earlier engines, and hence does not require resetting for a higher octane fuel.

the old ecu actually works out what fuel you are using in the first 20 secs of engine start up.

I have seen nothing to support ECU reset procedures on the NEW AGE (MY01) Impreza yet.

Don't forget this car has a completely different (Nippon Denso) ECU.

No doubt similar reset routines will become known soon?

Mike.
