Build from shell
I'm really thinking about building a new age from a shell. It's something I've wanted to do for a few years.
I've put a list together with what I think it may cost, I'd do my own labour and work in a dealership so have the tools/help I need.
Just adding up and wondering if its worth it?
It is more for the satisfaction and knowledge I've done it more than anything.
Have I missed anything and are my costs about right?
Impreza build
Shell £400
Wheels and Tyres £1000
Front bumper £150
Rear bumper £150
Brakes £1000
Suspension coilovers £800
Engine £4000
Gearbox £2000
Diffs £300
Interior £500
Spoiler £200
Lights £250
Bonnet £200
Steering Wheel £200
Paint £500 (mates Bodyshop)
Cheers

Steering rack
Steering pump ?
Doors
Instrument panel
Rad + fans
Intercooler
bcs
Boot lid
Grill
Ecu
Wiring loom or part of ?
Prop
Arb,s
Trailing arms
Front arms
And a few hundred little bits and bobs
I was gonna undertake a scooby shell build (track car ) which is easier
And I'm undecided because it's a hell of a lot of work , expense and hassle
I've done it before and believe me with the best planning in the world your gonna be missing loads
Unless you need to do a shell build I.e rally /track car that's gonna require seem welding and extensive cage work , don't bother
It's not the economical way at all
Unless you have nowt better to do or spend your cash on
I'm never one to dash someone's ideas but it's a big task mate

Not standard.
Brakes k sports etc
Engine inc ecu, etc running about 400
I know there's about a grands worth of miscellaneous I haven't accounted for, arb's, brake lines, fuel pumps etc.
Just want a rough total cost of a 400/400 blob from a shell.

Look at it logically mate
People break there cars because they fetch more in parts
So you're gonna be buying those parts and putting them back together
Would be a lot cheaper to buy a 400 blob or whatever as a complete car

i did this and nearly 50k later were still going but with alot bigger spec but with some of the bargains to be had you could build a decent well speced car for your listed budget good look with it

I've had stick (and others ) for modding a wrx bug when the more sensible option would be to buy an Sti
But I wanted to do my car how I wanted and not buy one halfway already done
If its you're dream and you think you can stick with it
By all means go for it
Like I said I've done a shell build ( BMW) and it is a lot of work but in the end it's very satisfying
You could buy a bug wrx for nearly the price of a Sti 6 speed box set up
Why not set about getting summat like that and set about doing some serious mods ?
Still not the cheapest route , but it'll keep you occupied
