Hmmmm, Apline and sound quality.... Two words not usually heard in the same sentence unless it also includes crap!
Ken wood are good std name stereos before you get into the proper kit!
As above sound quality mostly comes from speakers and the install quality, e.g. dynamatting custom mounts, speaker size and if possible External amps

you need larger speakers in custom mounts and the doors dynamatted at the very least on an impreza.

a decent stereo needs a good set of speakers for it to sound clear and sharp.
I have a alpine dvd face off stereo with the iphone dock in my glove box
also alpine door speakers and tweeters and alpine 6x9's with a alpine amp and vibe sub in a enclosure and it sounds amazing.
minimal I would say a set of 6x9's to accompany a the alpine stereo

You can skip the songs and all that off the stereo if that's what u mean, and u can plug it in to charge if u want to do it that way, it's cheap and cheerful but it does the job

The real deal however, with sound q will always be the speakers and the amp that drives them, I've scaled down my ICE to a set of CDT front components (6.5') and JL Audio sub (12') the sub is temporary until I make a custom stealth box to hold a8' in the rear quarter panel. All are powered by a JL 4500 amp, take a look at my speaker install page (ok its a forester but I did my bugeye the same way) for how to properly fit a set of front speakers (ok the tweeter could be dash mounted but as I mentioned if the soundstage is to low I can always fit the imaging tweeters on the dash). Do not fit 6 by 9s to the rear shelf as this is a sure fire way to reduce sound q (most people equate volume to quality!).
