Didnt have any confirmed hg problems with mine, just got to the stage where I couldnt enjoy the car because I was worried it was going to break. Having to work away from home also ment it never got used so I sold it back to Ambrose who I originally bought it from.

Sadly I have recently found its got a failing head gasket . API can fix this for approx £2k

Apart from the dreaded head gasket its in excellent condition.
? I thought that's why it was going cheap a £6k ?

Is that how much it costs to have head gaskets replaced...£2k?!!

I have a Spec D also, just a 100% standard one.

No, like I say it was unconfirmed. I panic'd and put it on here for £6k. Have since confirmed it wasnt hg and sold it. I edited the advert as soon as it was confirmed so dont know why you are quoting the original ad text ???

Shame. Its one of the best spec d's on the market and someone will get an excellent car, I regret selling it already :-(

To clarify , wasn't greatly explained in the thread as far as I could see and none of the subsequent posts from other people made sense....and I am nosey

So what were you panicing about, was it over heating ?

Yeah i agree my advert thread was a mess. It was not overheating just loosing a bit of coolant which was found to be a weeping rad hose but the worry that it was the HG was enough for me.

tbh I had got too attatched to it, was always worried about something breaking or it getting scratched in a car park etc. and I spent thousands of £ and many many hours on it only to not really enjoy it anymore. The time had come for it to go and Ambrose made me a good offer and easy sale.

No it doesn't cost £2000 to fix head gaskets. BUT to make it bullet proof it does. 2 Grand gets you the latest type head gaskets from the hatch. 11mm head studs to hold the heads down tight. Forged pistons to prevent the piston ring land cracks that the original B/s pistons suffer from AND all labour costs including liquids necessary etc..

On the odd occasion that the pistons aren't cracked we still advise a change, as they will crack, it is just a matter of time.

In the format we send them out in you can upgrade to 400 - 440 hp without any fears.

Yeah I loved my Spec D and spent a damn fortune on it ! but you can't drive 3 scoobs so I sold the one with the most return. I didn't like leaving it anywhere either, so I do understand but it's no way to live tbh.

I am resisting the urge to buy another ...but it's hard !

Yeah it's no way to enjoy a car, lesson learnt now. At least you have your others to ease the pain of your Spec D going. I'm now driving my Seat Exeo TDi full time and boy do I miss the Subaru performance

Already making plans on how to get back in one but it wont be until next year, thinking of a hatch and having an APi engine build straight away

2k is cheap for that amount of work imo, power engineering charged the previous owner of my classic £1400 for head gasket replacement and over £4000 for a standard rebuild.
