Default Camskill: good deal.

just got back from having my front tyres replaced, (the rears were done four months ago, due to a puncture knackering one).

Tyres were £147.10 a pair, delivered, and a local lad fitted them for £10, valved, and balanced and got rid of the old ones.

That's just under £18 less than I paid a local dealer for two last time, and a whopping £31 less than he would go this time, £53 less than my usual dealer.

Now I don't mind £10 or so to be able to walk in and tell them there's something wrong with the tyre, should I ever need to, but I'm not paying £20 more.

Toyo Proxes T1R's, btw, 215/40 17", on a classic.

The old ones went because one had a slow puncture that SOMETIMES went down overnight and SOMETIMES not for two weeks.

good deal, i too have used Camskill in the past.

The local place near me however were very reluctant to fit tyres that were not bought from them. He then proceeded to struggle to fit my tyre and then told me it was the way they had stored it in an "incorrect" manner - yeah right!

Providing i can find somewhere else for fitting i will be using them again

I don`t understand why places have issues fitting tyres not bought from them. Surley £10, £15 whatever, to fit a tyre is better than no business or am I missing something?

I rate Camskill very highly btw

My feelings exactly, ScoobySteve, and echoed NOW by at least one tyre place.

The place that did mine today specialises in part worn tyres, so were pleased to get the only partly used offside tyre out of the deal. I thought that two tyres fitted, balanced and valved and the unusable one got rid of for £10 was decent.

Turns out the lad that did it was at school with my eldest.

Some places refuse to fit tyres bought from somewhere else, due to insurance reasons and if you had an accident, the garage that fitted them would be in trouble.

I was told this by my local place.

Its a shame because there is a good saving buying tyres on camskill etc

I only ever buy my tyres from camskill as on the whole they are so much cheaper than elsewhere. The cheapest I could find my recent tyre purchase of 195 50 15 T1R's was £70 fitted and I paid £32.50 for them from Camskill and £15 each for fitment. I needed 4 tyres as I was going up a profile all round so that's over £80 difference which is just takin the pee a bit. When you get into the sort of tyres I had on my Aristo the difference gets bigger. Camskill were doing me Falken 452's on 285 35 18 over £50 cheaper than elsewhere.

MAG tyres, Station road by any chance? Or the place on the corner of Brigg Road?

Utter bollox, I'm afraid.

And yes, Andy, MAG Tyres. I wasn't aware they'd moved from Frances street until today.

This is a myth!! There is absolutely no problem getting the tyres yourself and then getting someone else to fit them. One of the best places to track down tyre fitters is the mytyres.co.uk website. Get tyres from Camskill and find a local tyre fitter on mytyres.co.uk. Been doing it for years and never any problem.

I told you Gilly would look after you. He probably didn't know that you were a mate unless you mentioned me, but regardless of this his prices are very respectable and he's a good lad.

He moved from Francis St. to Station Rd. as the land with the buildings on it came available at cheap rates from the Council IIRC. He's obviously now got more space for customer parking, a better location, an actual TWO-WAY street ( ) bigger more efficient premises and the ability to expand (I think he's looking at mechanics next).

I worked with him and his dad at Bibbys for years before he took the step to open his business. Only chap I trust with my refurbed wheels in Scun'orpe.
