Breakdown company question.
I`m currently shopping round for breakdown cover and come across a company called START Rescue.co.uk offering local recovery, national recovery, onward journey plus homestart for...............................£35.45 a year
It seems very cheap...has anyone used them or heard of them? Thanks.

I payed £38 for this year covering me and the wife / 2 cars with AutoAid. Slightly different to the norm as it's a pay and claim scheme, they still have a call centre to help you if you break down but whoever they send you pay them for the recovery or whatever is required then claim it back later.

They might be more expensive, but I'd never leave the AA as they cover me, not my car. On several occasions, I've been with friends with no cover whose car has broken down and the AA have saved us without any problems.
Once we even had a trailer with a small tractor on it in tow, and they got that home when it had a blow out and the spare was damaged, while we drove back in the car. Fantastic service.
All you need to remember with them is to religiously check how much your cover would cost as a new member when your renewal comes through each year, and then call their 'Thinking of leaving the AA' option. They'll then either match or beat the new member price. I paid £100 for joint cover (me & Mrs O) this year, for Roadside and Relay. The original renewal price was £170!
They're expensive, but in my opinion well worth the extra.

What does the homestart cover and does it have a limited mileage they will recover you for homestart. RAC only cover within 10 miles of your home address for homestart and although I had been with them for 17 years and only used them twice they refused to tow ( low loader) my Integrale from my home to a 'preferred garage' which was 18 miles & Just refused to help.
This depends on how close a decent/trusted garage is of course.
Went with the AA since (3 years ago) as they were the only ones then that covered nationwide recovery from home but think that some others may do this now.
Also noticed that some (when you read the small print) list home start as just that. So if your car starts that's it - no use if your clutch goes or some such - never tried this of course but they specifically stated that it is 'to get the cars engine started' or some such.

my mate works for a recovery firm, no famous name, and he gets sent to breakdowns etc even tho he just a recoverer.
he has official id etc for green flag and a few of the other less well known companies
these smaller companies are not always better, they may offer good money but some cannot even tow you for longer than an 1 hour!
