Default my first impreza

Hi guy
I might be buying my first ever impreza very soon off a friend of mine, so as i usually do is join a forum and introduce myself. Names Chris and im from manchester. Just trying to find out abit more on impreza's really, the model that im going to buy is an r reg uk turbo 2000 with 107k on the clock. What are the usual thing to check for on these cars and also are they reliable as il be using it as a daily driver along with my motorbike.
Any advice or guidence will be greatly appreciated
cheers Chris

Welcome Chris. Usual stuff to be honest mate, service history is a must, especially with that sort of mileage. Start it from cold and listen for any strange noises or smoke, take it for a run and check the temp gauge, smoke on over-run, or whilst giving it some stick. Engines are pretty robust though to be honest mate, the biggest problem with classic nowadays is rust - check the rear arches! Any slight bubbling could end up a massive job, as it's more than likely to be 10 times worse than what you can actually see on the outside. Has it got any mods/remap??

Hia pal as far as I know it's got exhaust and baileys dump there is probably alot more but not read the service history yet no rust whatsoever anywhere on the car which is great. I was going to take it to scooby clinic just to give it the once over and probably give it a tune as its not moved in two years

2nd that, classics run far better with a more than capable standard valve.

change it for a forge one mate they sound better and are better made. theres lots of mixed opinions on dump valves on this site its an ongoing argument between the standard brigade and the aftermarket group i have had aftermarket on all 4 of mine with no issues whatsoever. welcome to the site and ownership!

Suppose that's why the mafs dead, it's also the purple labeled one which I was told is rare? Why were there so many different versions of maf sensors, also where's best to get them

To be honest pal, if it's been sat for 2 years with a fcuked maf, unless you've got it for peanuts I'd walk away. Loads of minters out there for clumpence. Engine rebuilds ain't cheap fella

I used to own a series 2 escort Rs and quite liked the sound to be honest and it didn't always do it if you kept off the turbo
