Talking Best exhauast / de-cat ?!

Hi ...
My other half has just gone back to Afghanistan and left me with his bank card to get a new exhaust and decat downpipe (plus anything else) for his 2004 WRX.
I have no idea where to start and what to get. He currently has a Prodive 2.5" exhaust system with no decat but wants a more 'rumbly' and louder exhaust that gives the subaru roar effect.
Does anyone know if just fitting a decat downpipe will give additional noise/power or shall I replace the entire exhaust system?
Also where sell these at reasonable prices? I'd like a holiday when he returns so dont want to spend all his money on his beloved car
Thanks

The vortex cat back from scooby world is good for the £££ and will give you the Scooby rumble.

To be fair any decent cat back stainless exhaust will give a better sound than the Prodrive. The Prodrive exhaust is very good but is known as a quiet system.
I wouldn't advise a de-cat system but any stainless cat back system with a nice rear box will do the job.

Lots of places to check...

Or even better, a good second hand system from here.

Afterburner Vortex complete System.

I always run the decat for more power, but u need to be aware of MOT's and roadside VOSA checks. if you remove the cat, u may not get it through the MOT, and a roadside check, could also cause problems...

Even being a Mechanic. It Has never put me off.

Is the vortex the one with the flame burnt tip? Think that look can only be pulled off if it's sticking out the back of a saxo or corsa.

Wouldn't advise de-cating the car without having a re-map to suit.
If it has a Prodrive system then it will have a sports cat anyhow. Leave as is an just change the rear box. Cheap and will transform the sound.

I had a scoobyworld backbox on mine and it looked almost standard, nice oval tailpipe. It was quite loud but not too raw like a blitz or vortex. I changed it for a blitz as I prefer the bark.

Remember chaps, she wants to keep the price down. Miltek is out of the question, fantastic exhaust but big £££.
De-cat, yea great mod but then factor in an open source mapping session.

The only thing they want is more noise from what she writes, that can be had by one simple step. Throw the Prodrive rear box away and put on another rear box. Search our for sale section, you'll find what you need for under £100.

That would be the case if it was an STI, but this is a WRX, hence it will be cat-back only.

Just buy a prodrive sports cat and decat centre section - my mate's sounds lovely on that. Nur Spec is a bit too OTT for my liking, just screams "look at me" but everyone's different.

Miltek is a nice compromise. FUJITSUBO is another decent make, not too in your face.
