I have a nasty chip on my winscreen that may or maynot be able to be repaired in preparation for my first MOT. Under my insurance policy Autoglass will either repair for free or change the windscreen for £60 (not classed as an insurance claim). Has anyone had problems with windscreen changes or with Autoglass ?
Thanks
David

I had my screen changed by autoglass. No probs. as such but I had to take the car (MY98) to them and that was after a couple of days waiting for the glass to arrive.

No problems at all. The guy had to order the right windscreen so I had to give him the correct details, standard UK turbo MY00, colour Deep Blue Mica. He sorted it out for me and came to my house and fitted it as well.
It does NOT have any impact on your insurance at all.

Just make sure you watch them do it,they've got a habit of levering the windscreen out and chipping the paint and you find month or so later rust coming up around the screen.

I've had my screen replaced twice - can't remember who did them - and it turns out that the first time the trim was removed to get the old screen out, all the clips got broken. The net effect was that after my respray (the third time the clips had to be removed), they no longer held the trim in properly. Rather than argue with various insurance companies, windscreen firms and the paint shop, I ended up paying £50 to get it sorted.
If you get the opportunity to watch the clips being removed/refitted, it might be worth doing so. You might even consider ordering a set of spare trim clips and making them available to the fitter. They're cheap, and could get you out of having to have the sealant cut out and refitted like I did.
Andy.

All glass has to make a certain standard for european law, its not that its thinner (ie uk models wont be) but certain grey cars should have had their glass replaced (inc side windows) as this is a failure in the SVA test.
Use to have a lot of people when i was in cyprus, send their cars back to the uk only to be told that it didnt conform with UK/Euro laws due to the glass being too thin

Had mine replaced by Autoglass a few months back. It's a slightly different shade of bronze to the rest of the glass, and it had to go back after a month or two as the upper trim started to vibrate. Being an insurance job you don't tend to get a choice of where to take it unless you pay the £500 yourself!

Had my MY 2000 screen changed with Autoglass i had to pay the first £50 but if it had been repairable it would have been free.
All you need to take is you insurance certificate.
OH make sure you don't get the colour blind one who can't tell green tint from a blue one.
All the best Dixie.
