Default Currently selling my car but is it better to break?

Hi Guys and Girls,

After a good 8 years or so of owning my car i have now decided with kid number 2 on its way to sell it as i am just not driving it and cant justify keeping it.

The car is on ebay at the moment with a price i think is very cheap for whats been done to it (Its had Engine Tuner loving) and someone has suggested that i would make more from actually breaking and selling as parts?

Just wondered what peoples views and experciences were of this?
Apparently 2 door Type R shells sell well?

Selling the car is painfull enough but breaking it into bits sounds painfull also- my partner who hates it did say i would have bits of my car everywhere which was a nice way to think about it.

Just after peoples thoughts and guidenance really?

Thank you
Jimmy

Depends on spec fella, if there are goodies on there or not, 3 door shells do sell but all at different prices from what i have seen there is no "specific" price set out on what a 3 door shell is worth.

If it is just a standard car then chances are you will probably sell it as a whole easier than breaking as if it is standard there are plenty of parts readily available, people mainly want tuning parts or upgrades for another part, most people break their cars because of the cost factored in when building an engine so they can try to recuperate some of their losses

Post up your spec, im sure others will be along to assist with the question, and u can just test the water to see if it is viable to break or sell as a whole

Hope this helps

Thats a nice spec! Plenty on there that would sell as im sure you know

How much is the car to buy if someone offered the right money?

Looking at that spec i would immagine near enough all of it would sell for parts on the upgrade side of things, for a full 6 speed set up they are going for 2k alone, sc46 ive seen from 650 - 1k milage and spec dependant, then you got the engine which id imagine is 1500-2k ish........

Best thing to do is work out how much you want for the car then add up the prices of all the parts if you were to break it.

I made 2k more breaking mine than i would of if i sold it.

Looks a solid spec mind..

Hey thank you for your advice guys!

Would i be wrong if i did break to offer the engine as a package sort of a bolt in 423bhp package -engine inc turbo, manifolds, simtec ecu, injectors, intercooler etc. Or do people just want bits and pieces from it?

The whole car is up for £8499.

With the prices for just those bits your half way there.
Do you think i could get £1500ish for the shell with all the panels and glass intacked or is that too strong?

Will start a list now and see.

Cheers
Jimmy

To be honest with you mate if some one knew about there cars I don't see a problem selling the car at 8k ish, as im sure it cost you alot of money to build it as it is a very good spec, good luck with what ever you decide.
If you do go down the road of breaking it then please first dibs on the suspension set up
thank you

Its not a bad price at all to be fair, just got to find the right buyer looking for something as specific as that and will part with the cash, there was a blue jdm blob eye 04 plate i think it was for sale on here for £7950 with over 400/400 and with loads of other nice parts on it same as yours and that was hanging about for a bit, still dont know if it sold or not and then when you see others trying to sell their cars and they dont sell they are back on here within weeks being broke and sell everything near enough in a blink of an eye, i would say there is defo bigger market if you broke it but you need space to do so and keep things that may not sell, or sell them off as a job lot for cheap money if that makes sense, but either way i cant see there being a problem in it selling

Thank you everyone for your input.
I will keep her advertised for a couple weeks and see if i get any interested then i will look at breaking her up after i have got a list of what i think bits and pieces are worth.

I would rather sell bits and pieces on here than on ebay so i would need prices on everything before i listed them in the for sale section wouldnt I?

Where as on ebay its what the indiviudal person is prepared to pay.

This car is the car i have owned the longest ever and part of that is all because of the like minded people here on the forums

Sounds a good spec and would make what you want in bits only problem is having left over bits in your garage or the whole hassle of breaking it .
