Fastest way to accelerate a wrx
#1
So, opinions/findigs?
Feeding in the clutch (slipping) so that the revs are around 4K on start -> boosts of the line like mad
6500RPM on first -> 2nd gear etc? or should I change earlier since my RR figures show a big drop after 6K... or, is it good to get moving at higher RPM when the change to 2nd gear happens thus hitting 6500RPM on 1st before changing?
P.S
Yet to loose from traffic lights to: Old M3, Brand new M3 with 3 guys in it , Civic Type-R, New Kawasaki 400, Kawasaki 750 (girlie driver?), Audi A6 2.7Turbo, AUDI TT, numerous others who wanted a race from 0-50Mph in town between lights...
P.P.S
The races are just for fun and perfectly safe (from the radar perspective also, not just the fact that if I see people within a mile I don't race even if people are flashing lights and revving the engine beside me waiting for green) I brake immediately when I hit 50Mph so no time for cops to measure because of 3sec rule...

I always find that pressing that lever on the floor to the right foot is a sure way to accelerate

Haha, I worded my post a bit badly... guess this goes to the category of "dumb valve"

er the fastest way is by far the worst for your car.
with clutch down rev to 5k rpm drop clutch. Dont let the turbo get bogged down and push to maximum revs in evry gear. however after about 1 or 2 launches with the oem cluctch your going to get a nice smell to follow you. thats if the engine doesn't grenade itself first.

The bikes were either not trying or extremely crap riders!!!!!!

I thought they were bad drivers also... They were trying alright. One does not lean down and drive 10 meters behind from 0-60 and not come to the side of the car if one could
Especially when there were 4 lanes and 30 cars behind us when the lights went green. The new kawasaki bike (400cc) accelerated further when I decided to brake.
I actually don't provoke that easily but this guy stopped to lights 50cm from my side, revved the engine and looked at the car... I thought I would see how much he would leave but to the amusement of the drivers watching, car 1 bike 0
So, is going to even 7K in every gear faster? I thought that when the power curve drops, one should cahnge gear (around 6K).

It's true there are a lot of sports bike riders out there who just can't ride.....
I overtook an R6 going quite quickly a few weeks back on the exit of a nice large sweeping bend and then at the next set of lights, he stoppped by my window and (presumably ('cos he had a black visor) looked at me).
I would have been embarrased to be overtaken when going quickly (but not nearly quick enough ) on my bike by a car
If I had been on my bike, I would have blown me away in my car (if you see what I mean )
RE: your question, it's pretty much all over by 6000rpm on a WRX so I change at about 6500 and it drops you back in the power nicely for the next gear....

BTW, now that I think about it, I think the bike drivers were left at the beginng about 10-15 meters and did not have time to gain because I brake from 50-60 mph They started to accelerate at the same time but somehow 0-30 may need too much skill on a bikke.
It seems that the average biker is unable to get the bike moving and is thus in a bad postition in short sprints when confronted with a 4wd under 6sec to 60Mph car...
The bikes were new Kawasaki Ninjas and I actually think that the other one was 600cc... my friend said that it could have been the 750 but that is an old model.

In a traffic light drag, 90% of cars are left behind by the time a biker has let his clutch out fully in 1st, the rest fall behind a little later
Having said that, I've stayed behind cars i the past simply to avoid getting into a race situation. The last thing you need is to overtake a car, and then find you have a ton of metal attempting to outbrake you into a corner (where cars have more grip and carry more corner speed). Only really fast stuff though, everything else is a rolling chicane.

When people say 'Drop the clutch' is that letting it out in a controlled manner or slipping your foot off the side of it?
#17
Side step the clutch is the easiest way to do it at 6500-7000 revs. I have been through one clutch already Needless to say I haven't tried it since as I feel I have nothing to prove......(first time was a pure test to see if I could do it....and did )
On the bike issue, I have a great deal of respect for bike riders who from the 600's upwards (and riders who know how to ride 400's ) as they can quite easily, under good conditions pi$$ all over the majority of car drivers.......

Like I said, the bikers were trying alright but apparently they were bad at launching them from 10-30mph as they were afraid of wheeling...
I have surprisingly little respect for my wrx because I have tried sidestepped clutch launches and slipping the clutch
Actually I think a slipped clutch (4000rpm at start and then lifting the clutch in perfect harmony with flooring the throttle) gives the best start... any data on that?

Could possibly depend on which model you have.
My MY94 WRX is a tad laggy up until 4000 revs, then it tends to take on the mode of a rocket launcher, which makes it a little bit irritating in lower gears, but great in 4th or 5th......
I have to get the revs high else the little bugger feels like it is stalling till the turbo kicks in.
Good Q about any data, is there any available?
Would just like to point out that I don't do launches or such at lights, this is purely on some private land I have access to.......
