Default Looking to buy 2009 WRX STI type UK

Hi there

I'm new to the site as was wondering if I could get help and some answers about buying a scooby I'm currently looking at getting a white 2009 impreza WRX STI Type UK it has just under 30000 miles and in amazing conditions not a thing wrong.

Now the questions I have are the usual ones any new buyer would ask, what are the running costs like I.e service costs, MOT costs, how often does the oil need to be checked, how often do you need to do a service, are these new ones likely to run in to problems, what's the general MPG with and without a heavy foot and anything else that I have missed or forgotten would be a great help to mention.

All the info and help would be greatly appreciated as I've always loved a scooby and hopefully will be a proud owner very soon

Cheers
Mark

The 2.5 engine is not known for its reliability, economy, emissions.

The car has a lot more competition than they had 10 years previously.

Depends what you want out of a car.

Personally I'd look at 335i, M3, S3, S4, RS4, Focus RS too.

Well that's the thing i was looking at this or a mk2 focus RS and I was just weighing up the options between the 2 as I've always wanted a scooby but since the RS came out i fell in love with it as for what I want in a car I want something bigger in size and engine and something that will last me at least 4 or 5 years and not cost me a small fortune in the long run hence why I'm asking help from you guys on here

There is a thread at the top of this forum about engine failures ... may be worth reading that first

Great cars and don't be put off by all the hatch haters, agree there have been a worrying amount of engine failures or so it seems but you only hear horror stories and not owners singing high about cars that don't go wrong if you follow me.

As for running costs they are very similar to any other equally matched performance car. Servicing is every 12 month's or 10k, fuel its about £70 a tank I couldn't really say how many miles I get as it depends on what driving I do, mpg I get about 26-27 mpg to a from work in a chilled manor with the odd blast, heavy right foot obviously seen lower but on a run on the motorway to Leeds if seen 29.3 so all in all personally I don't think its to bad for a turbo charged car, my 330 ci managed similar. tax is on the high bracket compared to the RS and insurance well that depends on so many factors so best to look at that yourself.

For me the running costs aren't so much an issue as I buy a car I won't to drive not what is cheaper to run. Overall despite the engine saga these are reliable cars and on par running cost to most.
