An advice post.

Looking to get into a WRX and went to see a black 02 up near Loughborough last night. Absolutely immaculate inside and out with a perfect service history. Set the car idling while I had a look around and it came up to, and maintained temperature nicely.

Feel the 'but' coming?

When out of on a test drive I noticed smoke leaking from the bonnet scoop. Not clouds of smoke but, well, it's not suppose to do that is it, so I terminated the test and had a look. The smoke, smelt like oil smoke to me, was rising from the left hand side of the bonnet scoop radiator as you look into the engine bay.

So, curiosity has lead me here! I wondered if anyone had any opinions on the cause, more for future reference than anything else.

Check the rocker gaskets are not leaking on to the exhaust, or had the seller had any work done on it recently? As it may be a result of the oil burning of parts that may have been touched by the mechanic?

yeah does sound like a rocker gasket leaking onto the exhaust, not really a problem, very common btw.

Mine does that if i haven't used it for a while, as mentioned it's the rocker cover gaskets leaking.

Has it had a new exhaust or engine/gearbox work done recently? last time i changed my exhaust it smoked like mad for 20 or so miles. Are you sure it is smoke and not steam???
