Default TURBO BLANKET INSTALL

Hi, My turbo blanket arrived this morning from Texas, for my Newage 2005 Impreza. http://www.ptpturboblankets.com/

the heatshield has come loose as there was only the top nut holding it in place, as I had the downpipe fitted a while back, so all the nuts were not screwed back in.

however, although the heatshield is now loose and moving freely , I cannot get it out, as the top mount intercooler bracket is in the way, it sits directly above the heatshield and sticks out 2".

has anybody had experience of fitting a turbo blanket on the stock TD04 Turbo, and if so, did you have to remove the intercooler in order to remove the heatshield. how can it be done, any suggestions ?

Would expect it makes access a lot easier. I have FMIC so removing pipework is a big advantage.

yes, I know if intercooler were to be removed, the damn thing would come off, ie heatshield, but i was looking at other possibilities without need to remove the intercooler, iyswim.

so you must have removed the heatshield to gain access to the turbo, and how did you manage that without removing the intercooler, its near impossible. or am missing something here ?

ah, well that makes sense, then you would not need to remove intercooler, you have full access to wrap the blanket round the turbo and secure with stainless steel tie clips, the intercooler should not interfere with you from doing that.

yes, took intercooler out and the top heat shield came off without much bother, wrapped turbo blanket and secured with metal fasteners that came with the blanket.

however, did not put heat shield back on, some people do but I did not see any need for it to go back on , I hope it would not cause an issue?, as turbo blanket should be doing a far better job than what the heat shield did on its own.

True but a blanket and heat shield will do am even better job of keeping heat at bay. I had to cut mine a fair bit to get it back on bur keeps the oem look which I was after.
