Have I done the right thing?

Have I done the right thing?
After owning imprezas for the past 5 years I've just sold the latest one and it doesn't look like I will be getting one in the near future. I decided enough was enough for the past 2 years I've been putting £70 of fuel in week to average 23 mpg.
My thinking was to get a td that will double the mpg saving me 2k a year which is a family holiday. Is a week in the sun worth the depression of driving a dirty oil burner? well we'll soon find out.
It's only been gone an hour and I already miss it.

You'll be back mate. I still remember a few years back sending you that Natty's paste wax for your then Scoob
I had to sell my previous Scoob in June 2008 for financial reasons and pined every bastid day for another, till after an insurance payout last August I bought a "sensible family estate" Impreza Wagon and duely mapped it to my signature figures

That pot of wax you sent me just wouldn't end, I must have waxed my car 10 times with the little bit you gave me, I eventually passed it onto a friend saying the exact same as you "you might get a couple of waxes out of it". I'm still using natty products I'm on the white wax now for lighter paints.
I'm sure one day I'll be piloting another scoob it just looks a long way from now.

Hmmmmmm.
The thing is, has anyone who has swapped their Scoob for an oil-burner done so for one that is fun to drive, like a Leon Cupra, or FR?
This summer, I sahll be going back to France again.
I worked out that the fuel for the Xantia would be around £260 and that for the Scoob around £480........and that's JUST there and back.
Guess which car is going this time?
