Default just picked up a wrx with suspected knakered engine

Hi everyone, new to forum have just been an picked up a 1993 impreza wrx wagon.
Its done 119,318 on the clock but was converted from kilometers at 100,716 km so should have done around 77,500 miles?
It was up for sale as spares or repairs as suspected turbo fault
went and had a look and is a bit slow to fire up from cold but has been sat a few months, no rattle's or knocks from engine at all, but there is a lot of blue smoke both on boost and on over run and puffing smoke out of oil cap, got it for cheap as it probably needs and engine am a land rover tech so will be doing the work myself.
Will be doing a compression test tomorrow and checking for play in turbo but anyone had this before? and do you think its going to be rings?
It has a turbo timer, front mount intercooler (unknown make), HKS air filter, HKS Stamp on back box, haven't had a look under to see if its a full system or just a back box yet, and a dump valve that has been removed.
Never worked on a subaru as yet but few people at work got them and know what they are doing so can point me in the right direction.
Body looks pretty clean I thought for and old one no real rust around rear arches, sills or tailgate un like the other one i went to look at last week.
Only done around 5,000 miles since last mot and only advisory then was slight play in anti roll bar links
What do you guys reckon its worth as it is? just wondering if I paid a fair amount for it and dunno if the aftermarket bits it has on it are any good
Am happy tho always wanted a impreza and just the sound of that boxer engine makes me even if it does have a big blue cloud around it lol
Will try and post up some pics
any comments / advise welcome

My first thought would be the rings mate, also at best the car will only be worth £1200 once fixed, its a sign of the times im affraid.

Valve stem, rings, doubt it would be turbo. Worth a look though

Got it cheap so should have a bit left in it to put a engine in it or new rings and rework the heads

+1 mine had this when i bought it good news is complete engines for that year can be had cheap nowadays for a drop straight in quick solution but if its something you want to keep and cherish then a rebuild is always best (but not cheap) its not what the car is worth to somebody else its what its worth to you

Just been out and had a bit more of a look round the car, looks like it has a hks exhaust but standard cat etc, turbo doesn't have any play in it and says TD05H on the front and has a 90 degree intake?
Front mount inter cooler is bowed at the bottom and think its an autobahn but looks like it needs replacing.
Just going to do a compression test and confirm its the engine but looks very likely and just looking for and engine
Had a quick look at the ecu has these numbers on is it the standard one for a wrx?
