Just picked up my new P1 today and it got me thinking of how many of us garage our scoobs each night or secure them on the drive or have no choice other than parking them outside our abodes.......obviously be aware of our replies here but I wonder what's the breakdown !

I reckon your biggest worry with a P1 is someone breaking into your house and theiving the keys.

Otherwise, I doubt they'll find it easy to move. Trackstar will notify you if it moves more than 10 yards without the key in the ignition.

Yea, your right kurt, their biggest problem would be either the CCTV's, floodlights and sensors, alarms, 2x bullmastiffs, my shotgun charged and ready for the off (legal of course)or me in the buff (sure to scare any brave intruder) the keys are safely hidden! Sorry world we live in eh!

My car is parked on my driveway, 3ft from my front door.
I have been talking with a security specialist this evening and will be installing two "proper" cctv cameras not the crappy quality, fit it yourself stuff but stand up in court quality items.
This is in addition to my house alarm and dog (bites first then asks questions).
Also a couple of other surprises should someone feel that they should try to touch the scoob.


I know I should have got a house with a garage but there you go, too late now.

Bearing in mind your remoteness from Dublin (sorry guys - got to be said ) do you feel that the theft of your car is a significant risk?

Other than dodginess, is not the theft of cars in NI lower than the rest of the mainland?

High insurance is more a case of dodgy (generally) driving than theft? By dodgy, I mean the more "relaxed" [irish] attitude to driving & instruction...

Dunno, but my opinion/query...

Just a driveway for me, but it is in a private square with CCTV, only one entrace (with CCTV) and a bunch of Daily Mail reading curtain-twitchers who snoop on everyone, so I feel pretty safe.

I keep mine in the garage, all tucked up. Trackstar is worthwile as it has 'superlock' so even if they get your keys it wont start until they press the right numbers on the keypad and the alarm goes off as soon the little 5ods open the door.

The high insurance premiums in Northern Ireland are mainly due to the fact that the average personal injury claim here is a lot higher than in Great Britain and is NOTHING to do with the way we drive . I lived in England for 4 years and I witnessed more examples of bad driving there than I've seen in 25 years living here . The lawyers are to blame for gradually pushing up the size of personal injury claims , which of course is in their own interest as they recieve a percentage of the final settlement .

If you wee yourself at the sight of a shadow walking along your road do NOT buy an Impreza!! buy a car more suited to your demenour - a Corsa or something - and leave the Scoobies to the vilians!

I have it in an underground secure garage/car park with a person on the gate 8-6pm, and a wire gate locked in front during other hours. My personal bay has a lockable wire gate in front of it. So I'm not too fussed about it getting nicked, even if I get burgled. Shame the insurance company doesn't pay any attention to the huge difference in security - it would only cost 5% more to have it on the street, what a joke. Then again, it does cost a fair bit for the parking spot, but I'd have to pay similar to that anyway (london parking isn't cheap!).

Best defence IMO is get a good guard dog, and a 2nd car (even if a total banger) which you park in front of the garage.

I once got a 10% reduction in my insurance (on my Calibra I seem to remember) due to the fact that from about 8:30am till around 5:30pm, 5 days a week, my car in behind 3 levels of barrier fencing - the only way through is driving past 5 armed police officers, accompanied by 3 Alsations, 10 cameras and backed up by armoured vehicles and 500 other officers + crack troops!!!!! just a little bit safer than parked at the station!!??

If anyone can think of a safer place please tell me!!

Garage + anti-ram posts. The thing with me is not the worry of having it nicked, it's the worry that I might get it back. Can't bear the thought of some ****-head driving my Scoob and thrashing the nuts off it. If you nick it Mr. ****-head, burn it or trash it, 'cos I don't want her back.

Garaged, Tracker 24hr monitor and guard, Clifford anti hijack and an extra steering wheel lock.
When in a secure car park at work monitored by cctv I don't bother with the extra steering wheel lock.

As for spare keys etc, it would take me nearly 10 mins to get everything and I know where they are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have mine garaged when at home on the w/e's (p1) but still have the garage alarmed as well, not that I'm paranoid but i live in a village and my house is set well back from the road.

I did however find a nifty security late with PIR detector that if activated sends a signal to a small portable alarm in the house, which works very effectively, Homebase see them for around 30 quid. That monitors the car I have on the drive, although why anyone would wanna steal the wifes peugoet ??

When in London during the week I just rely on the neighbours and the alarm system, never had any bother yet, but then living in the heart of Primrose Hill I guess you wouldnt.

Always put the keys away at night in a secure place, that way any burglar coming in may not find them.

I have my keys daggling on a thread inside the letterbox - with a note outside to the wife saying pull the thread to move the Scoobie out the way.

You might think that this is unwise - on the contrary, the thieving little ***** cant read!!

On a serious note, its much better to have the keys hanging up somewhere by the front door - that way, you will sleep soundly, you wont even hear them. Hide them somewhere and you are going to get a right good kicking until you find them - so, hang 'em up!!
