i had a 6 like jays, great car and have driven a 9 as my friend has a silver one.
drive very similar to the newage sti but you dont have the chav stickered up owner problem the impreza has.
id have a 9 over nearly any impreza apart from the really rare versions

What sort of power was the Evo 9 running? How was the spool, top end & handling compared to the Newage STi?
There is something about these bloody Subaru's I cant get away from. I think I need 1 of each
I love my bugeye's, & this looks gorgeous! - http://www.amverselect.co.uk/used-ca...01223474989999
I sat in a 9 at 400 & it felt very responsive but never got the chance to drive it. The 8 just felt boring

Ive never driven a 9 but blagged a shotgun ride in a X FQ360 driven by a Piston Heads journalist on a trackday a few years ago.
It was hammering down, i couldn't believe how well the car handled in the wet....was unreal.
Thats as far as my experience goes im afraid, well apart from my own EVO...

I took part in a Spec C v Evo 9 day back in 2005 when the 9 was just being released (this was for Evo mag in Greece), we went to an airfield/track near Cirencester and did a good 4-5 hours photo shoot.
Put it this way, the 320 they had wasnt as quick as my standard Spec C neither did it seem to grip as well (maybe the Yoko tyres as they seem to go off very quickly), but best of all, my car never lost control, it just gripped and gripped, the 9 was "Allez uber das platz", as the Germans would say
The seats were nice though but if you have any bulk then you will struggle in them!

Driven an 8 and although it was very impressive and stuck like glue but it had no soul lol the power was linear and it felt like it was missing something. Got into an impreza after and all was restored. Can only put it down to the sound which is stupid I know but I guess I'm an enthusiast through n through

a friend of mine had a 450bhp evo 9 and got rid as no matter what went wrong with it it never seemed to cost less than a grand to fix plus he said his classic impreza running 370 p1ssed all over it lol

The 9 i sat in was very responsive, made power early and held it all the way through each gear. I did notice body roll at high speeds.
Its nice, abit high on mileage. The colour is not for me and I am still suck between the 2. I will be going to a few Mits meets to ponder at them a bit closely.

My next door neighbour went from a WR1 to an Evo10 (all singing and dancing version) and he hates the Evo. And he`s selling the Evo and getting a GTR Black, which will go nicely with his Sorned WR1.

Hi Kas, I went from a WR1 to an Evo X so not quite the same as a 9. That was my first Evo after 4 Scoobies. I liked the Evo and with relative ease (map, exhaust, induction kit) it ran 420bhp with no problems (mine was a jap import X 300). I had it just over a year but missed the Scooby so managed to get hold of a Spec C type 20 so the Evo got sold. They are definitely great cars but I'd take the Spec C over my X.
My advise would be to try one out and see what you think
All the best

I picked up a nice white 9 Thursday night......off topic thanks moley
Said it all along.....evo feels the tighter car when giving it some......but they break easy
I've never had a Subaru go wrong
The white 9 could be for sale soon as my missis hates it

It depends on what gives you that 'Buzz' when driving a car. If all your interested in is being noticed and turning heads then the rarer Evo would be the better car. I like the STi for the raw sound, adjustable torque split, its mechanical with no drivers aids and the general look inside and outside. I just don't like the looks of an Evo.
I haven't driven an Evo, but i always have and always will prefer the Subaru. The Subarus do have their drawbacks though, they have the worst car image possible but it doesn't bother me as much as others as i dont give a toss what people think.
Only car i'd have over a Scooby is an oldskool Cossie.
I'd say go and buy an Evo and then see what its like for yourself, a simple 10 minute test drive may not be enough. If its not for you then sell it. Simple.

Have been very tempted myself to do the same. Ive had a FQ360 here with me for a couple of weeks doing some jobs on it, Actually the power delivery is very much instant no delay and seems to pull to the redline without issue. handling seems to be pretty much spot on no hint of understeer or oversteer when giving it grief in the bends.
Look out for whining noises from the transfer cases and the ayc pump's have been known to fail along with pressure sensors. most folk ditch the AYC and fit the rear diff from the rs spec instead

I`d take the Spec-C personally, Only ever driven an 8 a mate`s old one and it was better than my modded bug WRX i had at the time(obviously) but not as good as my current car IMO, Now i didnt know that at the time as i hadn't driven a spec c but for what it does and how it behaves driving any other car doesn't even enter my head, Apart from a new GTR because i can imagine how that feels but realistically unless i win the lottery that aint gonna happen.
Kas, I`d reccomend a test drive in one so you can rule it in or out and it doesn`t cost too much to get it wrapped if you don't like the colour, I like to be different

While i remember send 'KennyC' a message on here. He's had an Evo 9 GT along with a P1 and a Spec C RA-R. He may be able to give you his thoughts on what the Evo was like.

Back in 05 my son went from an STi PPP to an EVO IX 320 so in terms of performance there was no comparison. He finds it a much better car although the STi is a more solid build. I've driven it once and compared to my STi which at the time had roughly the same power, I found the EVO rather better! Albeit lower geared, the EVO would pull strong instantly from lower speeds in 6th that the STi could only dream of! The steering was also more direct and quicker. The dash layout was however, poor with small dials that I had trouble reading without my reading glasses!
Annoyingly, it resides in a garage with a cover and with less than 11k on it and concours condition, he still refuses my offers to buy it from him!

Both are very good cars but the last thing i want, is to be disappointed. Another thing i actually enjoy is the Subaru community and the friendly tuners i have known for a few years. With a Evo i will need a starters pack!

I seriously need to drive the 9, but dont know how! I dont like wasting peoples time therefore would not want to go for a viewing just to drive.

Nothing broke yet...........
Yep that's the car......did you go view it?
The paperwork that came with it was a bonus

If you look at both cars like for like, i.e power and model year, the Evo's are considerable more expensive. Although not always, this has traditionally proven to be an indicator of how good / premium a car is.
A scooby specialist I know, himself stated that the Evo's are better built than the Subaru's.
Personally I would have bought an EVO if I could have afforded it, but as I wanted a newer car I opted for the MY05 STi instead. This gave me a better alround package, as I couldn't stretch to an EVO 9.
