Default Lake District fuel

Off the the lakes in a couple of weeks.

Will be staying in the south lakes area, but I hope to take in as many of the passes as possible, Honister, Hard Knott, Wrynose, Whinlatter & Newlands etc.

Where do I get Shell V Power or Tesco Momentum in the area whilst in the lakes?

I see the is a Shell station in Ulverston, anything further north.

Thanks in advance.

If you have a smart phone, there is a Shell app you can use to find the nearest Shell station

Ulverston, Kendal, Barrow, Kendal, plus above garages. Whenever I go home to Workington I have to go to Carlisle/Penrith on the way and fill to the brim.

http://www.shell.co.uk/home/content/...ation_locator/

Have a look on the link above.

If you require a quick fill up before you hit Cumbria, there's also a Shell just off Junction 34 of the M6 towards Lancaster

Thanks for all your suggestions, looks like I will be able to fill up at both Ulverston & Kendal whilst in the lakes.

Just hope the brake pads hold up now

Now where are those OS Maps

Octane booster sounds a good idea, we are heading for Northern Scotland later in the year and will definitely be needed.

I noticed early on that the weather was going to be an issue, checked the forum & the cancellations came thick and fast.

I will maybe catch you net time you get together, weather permitting.

Maybe try to organise a joint Lincolnshire / Cambridgeshire meet some time?

Plenty of Esso stations about further north if you get a bit short. Even BP if you get really desperate

Its round the roundabout which booths is on and just off to the right you can see it pretty easily.

Penrith, up the m6 off at jnc 40 take the 4th exit signposted Brough scotch corner, 1/2 mile of duel carriageway keep left and at the round about take the 1st exit and head down there past B&Q/Past esso and its next on the right just after walkers funeral Directors.

Carlisle, Theres several ways to attack this one, easiest being m6 to jnc 43 1st exit on the round about, keep in the middle lane at the traffic lights Head straight down warrick road, another set of traffic lights keep straight, yet another set keep straight Brunton park aka carlisle united on the rh side, Next set of traffic lights keep to the right and turn right, follow that road on around the academy, just past there merge into the middle lane to head north, at the traffic lights turn right and head down there until the roundabout you will see the shell garage on the right just on the edge of the roundabout, You need to go right around to get back to it.

Well we have just arrived home after a very wet weekend in the lakes.

Unfortunately didn't get to do any of the passes, weather on Saturday just wasn't fit, even by Cumbria standards.

On Saturday morning we drove from Witherslack to Windermere, the plan was drive up the unclassified road to the west of Lake Windermere towards Far Sawrey, but at Newby Bridge we decided the A592 west of the lake might be a safer bet. Even on that road we had to drive through several fords across the road, some 6" deep in places, glad the air intake is quite high on the Subaru.

On Saturday afternoon I used the Shell station in Kendal to refill with V Power, waited ages for a little old lady topping up her VW Fox at the pump nearest the cashier, as she drove out she took the litter bin which sits at the end of the pump plinth with her! She carried on oblivious to what she had one.

Thanks again for the advice on fuel locations.

We are heading back in a month or so, hopefully the weather will be kinder to us.
