Martyns magical mapping mastery...
Hey ho, spent the day at Enginetuner Tuesday to have a micro service and... fit a bagful of bits I'd gathered over the last 9 months.
Carl Davey manifold spacers
Perrin 58mm turbo inlet
Perrin billet parralel fuel rails and new fuel lines with Pyroshield
Denso 750cc top feed injectors
Grimmspeed electronic boost controller
PTP turbo blanket for the VF48
DEI reflectagold tape for tmi
also new led side light bulbs
and yellow clear vinyl for fogs (racing car stuff)
It took a little longer than we expected once it was all apart - trickiest bit was feeding the new fuel lines back under the manifold...
It got later and later and I was being asked if I had booked a hotel... no way, i had to be home that night etc etc
I did have the boot ready with two jerry cans of meths for a meths map also BUT time was not on my side and with the last bolts being done up at 5.10pm I was gonna be lucky to get 'a map' to get home on...
Martyn held on though, primed his laptop with new settings for the injectors, had a little guessestimate and off he went to do his stuff...
40 minutes later he's smiling like a cheshire cat, its really smooth he said.
Crikey that was the quickest map ever ! And i was on my way for just after 6pm.
Car pulled 372bhp with more to come when Martyn gets the time to play a little bit more with the boost etc.
So I've booked another visit for next Thursday for the finalising of the V-power map AND a methanol map too.
Power was up from the last visit by 8bhp - okay considering I had removed the decat 2.5" system and replaced it was a 200 cell sportscat 3" system. So I guess I lost a bit and gained a bit, remembering that theres probably a little more to come..
Most surprising was the fact that leaving at 4am with the cruise control set at an indicated 83mph i managed 24/25 mpg getting there. On the way home same setting was showing 28+ mpg ! Surprised or what ? Also getting 22mpg around central London today - usually its 17 / 18 mpg. Superb...
Perrin do rate their fuel rails saying car will run much smoother / better / blah blah... but I didnt expect an easy 15+% better mpg from the fuel rails and injectors. (BTW got Denso new 750cc from USA delievred inc taxes for less than £200.. perfect fitment - no messing with wiring like the ecutek ones).
So thanks Enginetuner - top job as ever - top techie Paul did all the greasework and helped me do my lighting mods, and advised on my DEI bling reflectagold tmi mods.
And a big thank you to Martyn for such quick, magical mapping mastery
TBH I wasnt expecting anything massive as these mods are all prep work for the next purchse... a new turbo. When funds allow I'd like a SC46 billet please - if anyone reading this wants to sell theirs and go rotated please pm. (Come on Jay you know you want to.. lol). (anyone else got a decent turbo thatll fit and in good nick please pm)
And as I dont want to go fmi I'm sorting the heat management as best I can - after the drive home i popped the bonnet - the cast red inlet was completely chilled... the new Carl Davey TFT spacers are the business

PS Now have some perfect 600 cc top feed injectors looking for a new home

That poor little vf48
Glad your still having fun modding mate.
Great work by enginetuner again by the sounds of it.
Hate to ruin your result a little. But since I had 800cc injectors fitted, I have been getting an average of 33mpg. Unfortunately the oe mpg calculator loses its way a little when you start messing with the fuel system.
Hope to so see you smashing into the enginetuner 400+ club once Martyn is let loose with the methanol.
All the best,
Jay

Okay so it transpires that the bigger the injectors used the more the mpg computer / calculator over reads.... So for 48hrs I was super surprised and now reality hits that I was super duped - aarrgghhhh !
I will try and do a mpg figure on my 500 mile round trip next week.
Cheers
