Early Fsti's are a funny one! Theyre pretty much just trim mods over a standard forester turbo!
The later Fsti's were a much different animal, as bustamoves said, they had pretty much hawk sti engine, drivetrain, and brakes and the rest of the car was extensively fettled!
Personally, i dont think the earlyer Fsti's are worth the extra cash over a standard forester turbo... (partly because dont you lose out on the heated leather and cruise control options?) especially as the markets a mine field of standard forester turbos with Sti stickers everywhere!

Here's the original SF STI mini site if you're interested:
http://www.sti.jp/typeM/
Open it in Chrome to translate automatically.
Basically the SF STI was a standard Forester with a body kit and a few other tweaks (the engine was the standard JDM SF5 Forester one but I think the ECU might have been mapped).
Here is a japanese Type M STI Fan site
http://www3.plala.or.jp/wrc/F-master/
These guys seem to think the SF STI has slightly more power in actuality
http://www3.plala.or.jp/wrc/data_spec.html
might be down to the ECU tweak.
