Default Subaru insured - what a joke

Despite having 2 policies with them, I look to get a quote to give them another car (my wife's Outback), they won't / can't provide a quote unless I provide them with a copy of the my renewal quote from my current insurer. Of the 25 years I've been insuring cars for, I've used phoned and used online quotes which have all managed to provide a price almost instantly....what's changed that this can't happen now?

they probably want to see what you've been quoted on your renewal, so they can nail your hat on...

Don't know, maybe the 'person' is a bit of a jobsworth????

I think its probable that they think you are trying to share out your NCD onto more than one policy?? so by having sight of the renewal , they can trace the one they want to sell you back to a policy number . My advice at this stage is to a) photocopy the renewal note , so that you have a record to keep , b)ask them to agree to provide you with a statement at the end of the policy that shows you have acheived another years NCD ontop of what you are joining with, but you will need this agreement in writing , otherwise they will deny it AND not do it either. my missus had this same particular problem with one of the biggest well known companies. and went from eleven years ncD to 'five or more years ncD' which is a load of crap. and unfair. GoodLuck.

No issues on the NCD as they are all distinct policys and I don't want any linking. Why should I share someone else's homework with them? They can quote me a price which I can choose to accept or decline. It's so lazy to quote £10 less to win. You'd of thought 3 policys was worth some effort.

yes i agree lazy of them.
.
i have my own issues with them , you take care all year and drive carefully , and this needs rewarding . but i guess them not doing the letter is also lazy.
.
Another massive industry that needs a shake-up.

Tell them you don't have a renewal quote yet.

They won't quote without a written copy, that's why it's a total farce. They'll have to do something quite spectacular to retain my two other policies. (will they need to see their own renewal quote before they can quote!)

So if she'd just bought the car and there would be no renewal quote, what would they do? Just curious.

They wouldn't quote? When I gave them my policy it was like every other broker, give them the details and they quote a price, now it seems they can only cling onto others' shirt tails.

I always ask what people have already had, as if they've already been quoted a very cheap price it's pointless wasting time trying to beat it, if i know there is no chance of doing so.

Moley,
What if they couldn't or wouldn't tell you? Would you decline to quote? Seems odd when they've already got my business on other policies, they clearly don't want or need anymore! Strange world.

I'd still quote, no reason not to.

If you ever get through to someone that is helpful. I found them to be very rude.

I had a similar issue with Carol Nash and my two bikes, after being with CN for 5 years they all of a sudden had difficulty in insuring me and providing a quote. after repeated calls I got a quote which had nearly doubled. I decided to try online and got a quote half the cost. I don't understand insurance companies!

You guys only think ye have problems insuring car's in the UK you should try and do it in Ireland :

I've only got a 1.6 2002 impreza, have full clean license 5+ years NCB, well over 25 and 50% of the companies refused point blank to give me a quote once the name subaru was mentioned! It drove me nut's.

In the end I got it for €480 but that was after near 2 full days of being driven around the bend on the phone to people who hadn't a clue. I even had one lass tell me " oh it's still a subaru, it might only have a 1600cc engine but we all know all subarus are fast"
