Red Rubber Thingy!
I've noticed that this rubber cap is torn and actually has been since I bought the car a year ago.
Does anyone know what its called and what its purpose is?
Thanks.

its a rubber insulator to insulate the electrical connections from anything touching it.
i think it is red to indicate a ++ positive electrical connection under/inside.
That is probalbly the main electrical (power out) connector off your alternator.
a mouse has maybe eaten the rubber, i suggest buy another or something very similar asap/soon. it would save your battery/fusebox. and could help stop an engine fire if anything (like bonnet leg) should fall on it.
sort it !
keep it scooby, sideways....but always under control.
