Default Black mirrors and door handles my99 why??

Hello! Signed up today! My first post so go easy on me lol.

I've potentially bought a 1999 impreza turbo. Just a question, since I've been looking at them, most seem to have body coloured door handles and wing mirrors but the one I'm looking at doesn't. Is it some sort of trim level/option?

I haven't noticed any spec levels or trim levels. They just seem to be either a sport or turbo

Just curious really!

Cheers

Lee

Hi Lee,

In the UK the 1999MY had black door handles, mirrors and side skirts.

The 2000MY had the mirrors and door handles colour coded but still had black side skirts

Most people had theirs all colour coded after purchase so the one you are looking at is fine, it had just never been colour coded. It isn't hellishy expensive to get done, but you maybe able to pick some already colour coded ones up off a breaker anyway.

I believe it was an optional extra, along with the side skirts to have them body coloured.

My uk2000 came with them in black and i agreed with the garage to have them sprayed as part of the deal.

Wasn't an OE when I bought mine in 98.

Just a typical Jap money saving device for a car that cost 25% more here than it did there, for MUCH less..........

"Poverty spec" was right for UK cars:
No rear wash-wipe,
No electrical folding mirrors,
No STi seats,
No STI steering wheel
No STi gear lever **** and handbrake cover,
No aircon a standard,
No STi clocks,
Poor ICE,
Mild engine tune, (215bhp vs 280bhp),
No STi parts on suspension

Yet they cost £22,500 against £18000 for the JDM car WITH all those extras

Most of that is because it wasn't an STI though, but I know what you mean.

I do think youl're being a little unfair as we in the UK did get the Bright switch

Yes the 2000 spec as above had the colour coordinated mirrors and door handles
Think it came in the sept 1999 change over to 2000 spec
Also I think the seat trim changed from grey with dark to blue with dark on the seats

And yes the bright switch

Many discussions we're held on scoobynet in the early days about it
List price was 22500 and £22700 for the hatch and in them days 6months to order and you might have got a free keying if you haggled hard .

They don't call the UK Treasure Island for nothing. Inferior products at an inflated price and we have to pay them. Some Jap cars which were actually made in the UK were cheaper everywhere else! Now that's adding insult to injury.

No Euro spec was the official moniker, poverty spec was the apt and more accurate description.

I did.......and anyone who thinks that in 1998 you could wait up to six months is living in cloud cuckoo land: the first dealer I appraoched quoted me ONE YEAR.
The second and third said they'd struggle to get me one in 10 months, the fourth got me one in NINE MONTHS!
And the wife refused point blank to let us cough up extra for aircon (£1200), or metallic paint (£300). Otherwise mine would have been reddish-blue.

But bright switch or no, let's not forget the words of the Peugeot dealer who put me onto Scoobs. On being told that his 306 GTi6 didn't do it for me, he asked me had I tried a Subaru Impreza?

He then went on to say, "But before you drive one, make sure you can afford one, because after that, you'll not want anything else."
And he was right.

So no matter how poverty spec it was, you still bought it and have emptied your wallet ever since fiddling with it

When I got mine in 1998, I was just very lucky
Turned out the dealer was a family friend which I didn't know about.
But long story short, two cars came in on a transporter, he said the Red cars sold, somebody else is coming to look at the Green car, to which I said tell them not to bother, I collected it three days later.
Best bit was I traded the Green 98 car(about 10 months later) for another new 99 car in Blue.
He sold the green car for £500 pounds less than I paid for it 10 months earlier.
