2008 - 2010 2.5 block
This may seem a little silly question but did Subaru make any changes to the 2.5 block come the 2010 model?
obviously the 2.5 has some reported issues but I was under the impression that it was more on the earlier 08 engine. Just seen a nice 2010 sti 330s and was wondering if it would be a better idea to go for a later edition car, it has had a rebuild but I think just with standard components under warranty (awaiting to find out)
thanks

Don't know about the block but the headgasket for the 08 cars is not the same as previous STIs, which would indicate that something has changed either the head or block.

No difference in blocks, the only difference i know is in the waterways in the 2.5 hatch twin avc's heads, to the previous single avc's 2.5 hawkeye heads.
The twin avc's heads do suffer from cracking from the valve spring bottom platform area, into the waterway gallery in the centre of the head, usually the l/h one.

Sorry I meant more the reliability issues with the actual engine not so much the "block" itself. there seems to be from what I have seen / read more failures on the 2008 hatch compared to the 2010 I was just wondering if Subaru tweaked anything.

The map was bad on the 2008 one of the guys like rob84 can tell you exactly, but up to 2010 and past afaik it was the same, the 2011 brought spec c suspension and better refinements.
There have been no reported 2011s go pop in the uk yet, and the 330s is a nice car holds value as its special nice one at crossroads for 25k
The pistons although speculative were used due to emission laws and other things, but the guys are right they ain't the best but no matter what u had in the 2008 it would have blown forged with the map
Subaru have learnt how to work the new ecu in the 2008 onwards and with the magic that mike and guys now work at Imgroup they release subaru supported maps so it's going good.
I'm now 18000miles in approaching service 2 and it's been perfecto 2011 model
