Default Very sad news - Bob Iles

Bob passed away last Saturday.

His funeral will take place at Canford Cemetry, Bristol on Thursday 5th April at 2.30pm.

"Bob" was a very early, active member on this forum and we started meets and the famous "Exmoor" drives from around 1998 in the Bristol area. I know Bob would travel to support other meets in the surrounding areas and was well known by many.
He was certainly legendary for the upgrades on his cars and new ones appeared on almost a weekly basis.

A fly past of the toll booths (M48) coming back from a Welsh trip at "high speed.. ! ", being just one of the memories that will stick with me forever...

Also, an incident with the "kitty litter" at Brands being another to look back on with a smile...

Bob liked fast cars but certainly knew how to drive them..

I was very sad to hear this news.

All my condolances to his family.

Steve

Steve was gutted when tra rang me today.

I remember trying to stay with you lot across the moors and after a moment I decided that I was going to try and hide, but yes Bob came back and found me lol.

Also in his P1 going to Wales when he made his own lane.

But the best was when he picked up a hitch hiker who begged to be let out a few miles later lol.

Yes a legend in my mind he will be missed

Was that the day of the helicopter chase and many ground vehicles Steve.

I think he started in a MY98 and did the PE upgrade,
MY00 - as he called it a hesitating bag of *****
Did he have a P1 ?
Then I remembe the STI 5 (RA?) with a 2.5 conversion and 6spd and lots of HP.

Then he turned up for an Exmoor run with a 3.0 Legacy and hung onto us !!

As you can see, the memories are flooding back to a very enjoyable era..

Steve,

So well said. I'm gutted to hear this, the guy was a real legend! His battles with pro drive and so on, and his comments on scobbynet

I'll be cleaning the RB5 and taking that. Can you remember the blast through town up to the star, when we went past a couple of old timers, just past the city ground

Truly sadden, but also smiling at some of the times we had, especially the thorn tilts around the high street!!!

RIP bob x

Had to re register as forgot my old password and the old email no longer available!
Steve text me last night and i was genuinely sad. Poxy, your right, he defo had a P1, me, steve and bob ragged it to goodwood once, my passenger begged, literally begged for mercy! Bob didnt have for long though as he thought it was too much money on his drive!
I have nothing but found memories about "mad" bob.
I first met Bob nov 1998 in Clifton and he absolutely ragged old bluey across Clifton downs.,( i would say his favorite car) i was shocked at a relative old geezer bouncing of the rev limiter in 3rd!!! but kind of found a man after my own heart! Lots of exmoor and welsh runs later and a few track(kitty litter at brands) and airfield days although he never quite got the bug that i did, he preferred living on the edge on the road!(as of course did i)
I still laugh at what he called his silver impreza. My goodness, they were the days and i recal them with fondest memories. I mentioned to paul earlier that i feel we should have a reunion of all the early guys and gals that went on to start the south west section, think it would be great to chat and reminisce!
How times change! I drive a Mondeo tractor now!

RIP Bob, you were a great guy

Bob was a proper nutter!!!

I always remember him wearing his "No Fear" hat, whilst he spoke with a south west accent. He must of been 110yrs old the last time I saw him!

Some names from the past, Moray and Stef!
Last time i saw Moray he had a E30 M3.

The MY98 was Bluey and pulled like a train, he always backed up PE as his remap/chip worked wonders. He always said his biggest mistake selling that for the hesitating bag of sh##e!!
