The following thread from the MG X-Power BBS, shows footage of an EVO VII having a big off at a track day.
Now correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't "Ecole de Pilotage" mean "driving school"?
MG X-Power BBS Thread
Just a reminder that an inocuous little run off can have catastrophic consequences...
NB - No one was hurt by the look of it. Only fiscally!

FOR SALE - 1 Evo vII, "rolling" shell !
I wouldn't be very happy to share a track with that guy - assuming it was a track day, he should have been taken off, as Carl said, drift taking on bends ???? :0((((

THought he was driving rather agressively(overtaking on bends etc).
Also notice there was next to NO run off on that track.
It happens to the best of us, erm it happened to me....

I have to say, that is the best driving video I have seen for ages.
And very expertly edited as well, with a brilliant change in the music as he leaves the track, as well as the big "mais" wording Superb.
And come on guys, he was driving well. Reminded me of when Tiff puts Evo's etc through their paces, and he has had the odd "off" as well. The drifts are amazing
And as for hassling the Elises, trackdays are too soft anyway, it is dull having to overtake on the right etc etc He is no nearer to the Elise, than when you have a bit of a country lane duel with someone over here.
Cool vid

Isn't it a female driving? It zooms in on someone near the end carrying a helmet, presumably the driver.
People are always like - you should save that for the track - then slag ppl off for going banzai on the track.
Jolly good show I thought.

I noticed it was a bird walking away from the car, and came to 2 different conclusions:
1. Twas a woman driving.
2. Very annoyed wife who had told her hubby not to partake.
Not sure which

Looked very nasty on the video but at least no body was seriously injured but it just proves how easy you can total your car in seconds.
Not worth avoiding track day insurance as you would have a job dragging that to the nearest road.

All that sideways did look good but it wasn't quick if you look at the Elise in front of him going round the last corner it is quicker but doesn't look it because it's all nice and tidy, still be nice to do it though(without the rolling over bit).

Brilliant driving up until he/she encountered the elise. Twas blindingly obvious that they were going to crash though. Im just surprised they didnt take anyone else off the track with them.Such aggressive and to the limit driving should IMHO be left to an empty track/airfield. Last thing id want is an idiot like that endangering my life through "macho" driving on a track.
Whoever it was should be banned from track days for a very long time.

It probably helps if yer dad is a) the owner of the driving school and b) the owner of the track.
Gilles Stievenart is a French rally driver owning the track at Abbeville. It was his son driving.
I don't think dad will have been very pleased.

I have driven this track twice in the past 6 months, the last time being two weeks ago.
Its a great track, but the chicane is there for a good reason. The bend in question is flat in forth without it and the gravel will get anyone who runs out of skill.
That said, the first time I went there, the owner was there with all sorts of machinary, from new WRX on slicks right up to a full-on GpA Impreza without an inlet restrictor.
I have no doubt that he is a very good driver, but his track etiquette was non existant. Especially when he couldn't catch someone In this instance, he would go and get a more powerful car and overtake on bends etc with even more speed. Track days are not races.
I was pleased that on my second visit, he was not on the track.
It is very easy to drift at Abbeville, as the bends are surfaced in low friction tarmac. It is after all a rallycross school.
On an SIDC day, if anyone drove like I witnessed on my first visit, he would be sent home before commencing his second lap. Having seen the video, his son would not be allowed into the same county.
I must add that the members of the French Subaru club drove impeccably and it was a joy to be their guest.
