recently my classic impreza turbo failed the mot so did the 5 small things on the list and put it back in and it passed but one of the 5 things was the sun strip they said it was in the drivers view and that the wiper overlapped onto it so i just removed it to pass but was thinking of putting one back and after reading up about it on the net people seem to say its legal if the wiper doesnt overlap also if theyre see through its ok also people have said put small wiper blades on for the mot but i noticed on the classic the wiper isnt far off the top of the windscreen so doesnt leave much room and wouldnt be worth doing and would look crap being that thin also not keep out the sun so wondered if anyone else had this problem or come across it? i dont fancy putting on a decent one then every mot take it off and keep doing this...
I usually put one on the outside , less than a tenner on Ebay. But since i get my fronts tinted now , i just give the guy a few quid to do a proper inside tint/strip while he is at it (straight after MOT) pretty much illegal whatever u do.
Seems a bit pedantic.... My MOT tester has never failed me on mine which have always overlapped even when visible wiper wear on letters on strip.
I mean they know that you will put one back on... It really isn't major my advice find a good but fair mot.er
Not into this idea of paying for a pass.... You want a good bloke who picks up on problems but isn't throwing the book at these minors.

chris.
lol , he means the OP !
as for finding a "good" MOT tester , have no choice in Northern Ireland. You just book a time and cue up at the test center , and they will ALL fail on the sunstrip !

my tinting guy was actually saying they are cracking down on them , as everyone just says "the tinting guy never said it was illegal" to try and get out of points on licence. The police actually waited outside a different company and waited till a customer came out with full tints and pulled them AND the company. They got a LARGE fine (thousands i think) so he was a bit wary of doing mine. I just told him i will take the rap and say i did it myself , which i usually do , but i'm getting lazy in my old age !

i just wont bother with a sun strip now its pointless having a crappy thin 2" one and i dont want a see through one or shorter wiper blades and then fail on that and cant be bothered to put a new one on every year after the mot and im sure all mot places will fail a sun strip if the wiper overlaps and is solid or theyre a dodgy mot place, just have to wear sun glasses instead...
