central locking going mental and driving me mental too!
ok did a serarch for this problem but no difinitive answers so....got a my96 wagon and my central locking is playing up big time. when i unlock the doors with the key they unlock then lock again straight away which is annoying as hell when im trying to put the wee man in the back of the car as the rear doors either dont unlock or do then lock again right away. also sometimes when driving along the road they will suddenly lock and unlock at random times for no reason. any ideas lads? do i need a new central locking module or something or could it be a loose plug to the unit?

no alarm fitted bud. all the doors unlock then lock again straight away, or ill unlock them and open drivers door and by the time ive done that they lock again so i have to flick the drivers switch to unlock the rears again. also at random times they will lock/unlock. ive either got a poltergeist or some thing wrong with the central locking unit im guessing?

you may need to remove the front doorcards and check that the rods are working freely etc..
but first though can you test the the passenger and rear doors to see if they work normally with you opening them from the inside. This way you can pinpoint what door is the culprit.

all doors are working bud. would i be correct in thinking it will be a drivers door problem as that is the control button that opens/locks the other 3? its like someone is flicking the drivers switch and locking or unlocking them but obviously its doing it itself.

Ok so the drivers doorcard needs to come off and then the door handle put back on so that you can operate the lock with the card off. All you will need is a phillips screw driver to remove the 6 or so screws, let me know when you have done that and i will talk you through what to do next

Right once the doorcard is removed and the handle put back in place, you will see 3 rod and meeting upto a metal bracket in the top left corner. The chances are that one of the rods is either loose or is slightly out of shape and it's movement is being restricted. Use the doorhandle as you would normally and see if anythings causes lose of movement. It may be a good idea to remove the passenger doorcard too so that you can compare them. You may well find that the vertical rod which runs from the the electric motor upto the metal bracket is either out of shape and catching or it's come loose.
