Default Timing belt

Hi folks,

My 2001 bugeye timiing belt needs doing. A friend who knows what he is doing is going to help me fit it but I said I'd have all the bits ready to go.

Can somebody post a link to a belt thats up to the job? I want one that isn't going to fall to bits but I don't want to spend unecessary money.

Also is there anything else that needs to be done at the same time? I don't want to spend money replacing things that aren't broken but if there is anything cheap that is worth doing anyway or anything that is needed I'll get it. Can someone post a link to that stuff too?

Cheers

Dan

Gates. Its what is fitted at the factory, and guaranteed for as long as the cambelt service interval*

*assuming other faults such as tensioner/pulley/pump bearings/oil leaks/woodruff/keyway don't cause premature failure.

Obviously becuase of the clause above those parts need to be inspected when the belt is removed, as you won't know the condition of the idler and tensioner pulley bearings until the belt is removed so they can be spun by hand to feel for play/rotation smoothness and if they are dry of grease (dry bearings spin too easily, usually noisy too). same applies to water pump (leaks and bearing condition), tensioner piston, and of course you won't see any oil/coolant leaks until the belt covers are removed.

Folks,

Just looking at this and the belt is much cheaper than the kit. Am I likely to need the whole kit? Would it be worth taking the old one off and see what nick the pulleys are in before splashing out?

Change the whole lot, not worth it, false economy to just change the belt.
