I am considering getting a Halfords 2 or 3 bike carrier for 30 or 40 quid. Has anyone used this and wants to comment ? Is there anything better out there for less then a hundred. I want one that straps on to the back of the car, not a roof rack.
Car is UK 98 Turbo saloon with 99/STI4 spoiler, bike is Specialized FSR full suspension.
I was not sure where to post this so apologies if it is in the wrong forum.

Can't speak for the Impreza specifically, but I used to have the Halfords 3 bike rack on an old Rover 200. It was plenty solid at motorway speed with 2 bikes on it, and reasonably well padded in the right places. If you plan on carrying 2 bikes, definitely get the rack for 3 - the rack for 2 is a real squeeze and not worth the small saving IMHO.

Actually just saw that you ride an FSR... you may find that the shock mount gets in the way of the arm on the rack... I used to have a Marin Mt Vision and it was tight but it just about fitted.

Nothing really to hook the rack up to bottom right on my STi V - it's a right pain and making knots affair. Never been happy with the fitting - lots of pressure on bumper lip too.
Would recommend you consider a tow ball to mount it on.
I too have had FSR's and that doubles the problem cos they aren't triangle frame.
