In need of expert advice
Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and hoping you could help out.
I've been offered an R reg Subaru Impreza turbo as a swap for a bike I'm selling. I'm a little unsure whether or not to go for it, which is were your help is required.
This is the only info I have on it at the moment -
It's a Subaru Impreza Turbo, R reg.
Its got 90,000 miles on the clock and has had 8 owners.
Its been upgraded with a bigger turbo, but don't know any more about it than that.
MOT expires in September and there's also 2 months tax left, he also stated that 6 months tax was £115 is that correct?
Apparently the previous owner lost all the service history but he has receipts from the work he's had done and has the last MOT certificate.
I know it's not much info but based on that alone what would peoples opinion be about swapping for it? Also how much do you think it would be worth, if it's possible to do a rough price based on that little info alone.
I'm just a bit worried about there being no service history, and because I know little about cars I don't want to end up having to fork loads of cash out on it getting stuff repaired etc.
Sorry for the long post, I really like the car but I'm just a bit uncertain about it. Any and all help/advice will be really appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks for the advice so far.
Here's a picture of the car -
If I did decide to take the swap and then a few months down the line decided it wasn't for me, would the lack of service history affect the price, and the ease of sale?

Imo the age of the car negates the fsh for me.
Condition and the current owner will give you the clues to how it has been looked after.
Stamps in books are easy to fake.a well looked after car is easy to see if you know what to look for.
Only my opinion.

Sorry, I'm quite useless when it comes to cars. I obviously realise there's a lot more to these type of cars than just the model. I can ask him for more info, what should I be asking him for?
I gather I need to be asking him about how it drives, if there's any niggles with it, what turbo he had fitted, but it's the other things I don't know what to ask about.
Thanks for taking the time out to help me. I'm a fast learner and will pick things up quickly but don't want to swap and end up out of pocket, especially whilst I know nothing about these cars.

I can add that to the questions I need to ask. What turbo he had fitted, what did increase the BHP by and who re-mapped it. That would be right wouldn't it?

Right so if I ask him -
What's the spec:
What model turbo:
Who did the Remap:
Oil changed recently:
Any problems I should know about:
Is there any body damage or rust:
Would that be about everything I need to know? Is Impreza turbo a specific model or do I need to know exactly what model it is?
I am sorry for all the questions and am really grateful for all the replies.
Thanks

Hi and welcome, One thing is for sure you can't just bolt a turbo on and hope for the best, you do need to find out what has been done to it, as it may have an exhaust and filter ect, which would defo mean it needs a remap, not sure but it would need at least an esl daughter board and remap or new ecu as the standard one is not mappable on its own, and this is critical, anyone who says different is talking out of their bum.
If this has not been done walk away...

What are people's guesses as to why?
Think it's time to forget about it, unless it's a simple fix.

head gasket. problem is boxer engine has 2 heads. may need both heads and block reskim. allow about £1000 for head gasket failure. i would leave well alone. plenty of other fine examples out there that have no problems.

Thanks for everyone's help. I'm going to take the advice and walk away from it.
Think I'll save up some spare cash and just buy one outright, possibly an estate version like this -
