Default Recommended clutch for minor mods?

Hello ladies and gents. As some know my my99 UK wagon was remapped a couple of weeks back by Sir Bob Rawle with the delightful results of 284/317 on the standard TD04

Unfortunately whilst finally solving my misfire issue (dodgy leads/coil), under full load at low rpm in 5th yesterday evening I got a little warning, the dredded first inklings of clutch slip. It wasn't overly threatening so I have time on my side for now but replacing the clutch is a case of when not if now.

So running the above figures (no immediate plans for higher as I'm running the standard 'box),

1. What would people recommend clutch wise? Exedy? Standard, stage?
2. A good supplier of said product, either supplying or supplying/fitting?
3. An approximate cost for fitting?

Any information and experiences would be appreciated, my only previous experience of changing a clutch was with regards a gearbox rebuild a few years ago.

Many thanks,

Andy

Harvey Smith: he will sell you a genuine one, at a decent price, Darren will fit it for you, again at a decent price, job done.

Ah, thanks Jezza. I didn't realise they sold them. I have sourced an upgraded one for approx. £260 off camskill. An organic one, do you use similar? Could be an excuse to visit friends up that way if Darren can do it. I've seen prices around £220-300 excluding vat to fit Surely not that much and i know Harvey is competitive with other fitting services.

I had a standard exedy replacement clutch on a UK turbo running circa 300bhp for a few years without any issues whatsoever. Paid £80 for it on eBay (think they are around £150 normally) and around £150-200 for fitting. If you are not going much over 300bhp why pay more than you have to?

Have you already bought, Andy?
DON'T do so before contacting Harvey and tell him I sent you.

Bu don't expect fitting to be cheap: gearbox or engine has to come out, afaik.

Did warn you about this when you wanted an older car modded.........

Intake your points onboard but I don't trust eBay for things like clutches unless it's a known trader with an eBay account. Plus I won't be fitting it myself so it may work out cheaper to supply and fit?

I haven't bought yet no. It only slipped ever so slightly last night as per my OP. I have emailed Harvey for a quote but it will be something I'll need to save for. I accounted for a new clutch when purchasing the Subaru, Jeff, just a case of how soon.

Thanks

Exedy pink box will be more than adequate BUT some people have have had issues with juddering. Scoobyworld are doing them for £237.50 if you quote 'JP Clutch 10'.
Fitting prices will vary.

Yes i know but i personally wouldnt bother spending nearly £100 extra if its not going to go over 300bhp. If you may be tempted to mod further then its a different story

I am after a replacement clutch for MY99 UK Turbo engine, would I be right to say that it will be a 230mm diametre that is required.

I can get my flywheel skimmed by the machinist from my works, but he asks why? Why are you suggesting having the flywheel skimmed or replaced?

It's just to ernsure that the mating surfaces are PERFECTLY flat.

During it's life, a clutch may cause wear in a way so as to render the flywheel no longer flat. But because the two mate, there is no problem.

When a NEW FLAT clutch is fitted, the wear pattern on the flywheel can cause judder, bad take-up and fast wear on the new clutch.

That's my understanding, anyway.

Yep, pretty much.

I remember when having my last UK box replaced due to wear and tear, a new clutch was fitted but the flywheel was left untouched as it was perfectly ok when checked (clutch wasn't slipping, just changed as a matter of course whilst the box was out to save labour later on).
