Default new key transponder problems

Hello all...

So I lost a set of keys (06 wrx hawkeye) got myself a genuine subaru key without central locking buttons (my aftermarket alarm fob handles that) got myself a transponder for the key, got the key cut, got the transponders data put onto the blank......
All went well. The key works the locks etc just fine, the transponders data was transfered across successfully...... But when I try to start the car with it, it turns off after about two seconds.
It knows the transponder is in there as the red key light stops flashing when I put the key in. THe ignition comes on fine. But it just won't start.

I wondered maybe there is some kind of sync procedure to go through still? You know how if you change a battery in a fob sometimes you have to sync it back to the system for the central locking to work....
If anyone knows if there's a similar procedure for new transponders give me a pm. I can't find anything in my manual regarding it and subaru themselves are pretty much less clued up than me, who knows nothing!

Oh and my original key is still working fine

Cheers chaps.

They programmed the alarm data across from your other keys but they cant swap the immobiliser data across, as theres a chip in the key. Thats the issue your experiencing as its not programmed for that so the car will start then stop straight away

Hi mate..
By chip I thought chip was The transponder?
My car never came with an alarm of any kind. Straight from factory, brand new no alarm....then k stucktmw own aftermarket one on.. so there's no alarm data to copy for the key surely? When you say chip do you mean the tiny bit at the front above the key blade? That's the one ive had copied.

So confusing. :-\

Yes chip is transponder.

Depending where you got the transponder, so assuming its blank, most key cutters can copy info to one. But the way the immob works on that year, will be rolling codes. So its a different code everytime. So that copied key will only work once every million or so attempts.
You really need to have the key, paired to the car. As fars as I know, its a Subaru only job.

definatly a transponder problem. shutting the fuel pump down which is why it starts for a second or two. subaru dealer or possibly one of the mappers on here could code it for you.

Cheers boys
I went back today and the bloke did indeed say it might be a rolling code...however, he also said the machine normally chucks up an error doing cloning of the chip if it is a rolling code system.

I'm wondering now do I have to get the chip wiped blank and have the mapper clone THe data etc... Or do I leave it as is, with the data on it. Then the mapper adds it into the system?

I'm assuming mappers would charge much less than a subaru-tax added dealer?

Also can any mapper do it or does it have to be anyone in particular?
I used to use zak at mocom but more recently used Duncan (race dynamix)

I might give him a holla.

Thanks again boys.

Hi Duncan mate, that'd be brilliant..

Do I need to get the new one I've just had the data copied across to wiped clear? Or does it need that data on it for you to code it in?
