Angry my sti is at the doctors!

hi all,my 2005 sti type uk ppp has been a poor starter for a long time now,it has a battery cut off green dial screw removable thingy(about £10 at halfords etc...) i clean it every few months to keep a good contact on the negative side. This last week she has let me down 3 times, this can be rectified by unscrewing the green cut off and re screwing it down again and she starts, today i blow a fit and went to my local dealer, they think it is the alarm module playing up £££yet i think removing the battery cut off device will put a stop to this non starting nonsense, and by the way when i try to start i get a beep/alarm noise before fire up?Please help if you have any advice,we tested the battery and a report for more charge was required, which makes me think that the cheapo cut off is disrupting the charge cycle and the start up.Cheers

I had something similar, alarm blips etc on start up. Found it was a dying battery. The cold finds the duff uns out.

yeh i agree with you,but it just seems that the charge from the alternator is not getting through to the battery, the batt is only 9 months old!and the dealer thinks the alarm module is drawing tooo much juice,i think the cut off on the negative terminal is faulty.

connect a voltmeter across the battery terminals with the engine running you should get approx 14.6 volts if you do this means the alternator charge is reaching the battery.

A healthy charged battery should read 12.6v before starting the car.

update from my dealership, they agree that the battery cut off device is faulty, please bear in mind this was fitted to the car when i bought it!.The device is causing the charge to not reach the battery and also not giving enough current to start the car, they are going to fit a new device 2morrow and i get the scooby back so i will post a pic of the culprit later, cheers.
