Default Wanting a scooby which one to buy

Hi all I have a mk5 Astra sxi to trade in against my new car this will be my first scooby but I'll be keeping it for many years so need to pick the right one my long term goals are 400 maybe 450 bhp just wondering which one is best for this as I like both the blob and the hawk I've been looking around but no luck right now I'm in Essex I will travel but has to be a dealer as I need to trade my car in agaist it don't mind a bit of finance on the car too so looking around for something £15000 and under is there any dealers close to Essex worth going to. I keep seeing j performance poping up but not sure how far away they are from Essex can anyone help please.
Cheers
Shane

With a budget of 15k you will get a Hawk jdm sti or possibly a spec c, for a bit less will get a post my05 blob. You could also get a t20 if you can find one. That's where my money would go. All will handle 400+ without major changes. Just be prepared for insurance quoted being high as experience in an Astra won't get you any bonus points. Might be worth settling for a type uk, then mod that in the future.

On a classic you're starting to get in to big money gearbox rebuilds for that power. On a new age, the 6-speed box will last a lot longer.

Welcome
To start with, what engine is your SXi? 1.6 petrol, 1.8 petrol or 1.9cdti (120 or 150?)

Going from any of the above (the 1.6sxi is the most common) will be quite a shock/jump to a 300bhp car, especially in fuel

You also need to understand that a well set up car is going to be better than a badly setup 400+ bhp car, if you are just in it for straight line speed then a bike is a better option, not many, if any, 400+ bhp cars will leave you on a twisty road with 100bhp less in your car.

J performance are near Coventry and are a decent outfit by all accounts. Don't know where in Essex you are but on a good run I can do Coventry to Brentwood in an hour and a half, usually two hours dependent on the m1

Hi and welcome, if your into modding i'd consider a slightly different route.

You can pick up a nice uk 05 blob sti for 8/9k possibly less, then you have lots of cash left for moding and could reach 400+bhp for around 3k no problems.

And i wouldn't worry too much about going to a dealer, as what you lose on the trade in you will save on the purchase buying private alot of cars out there for good prices with people that need to get rid.

Cosworth and scooby are to totally different cars to drive, You will be shocked how new a scooby feels against the dated Cossie, A mate with a standard STi Type R(280bhp) had a go against a Sierra Cosworth which was supposed to be running 350bhp and left it for dead.

I wouldn't get to caught up with bhp numbers mate, even a newage with a full exhaust, filter and remap is a more then capable road car, Just spend some money on a good suspension set-up and brakes and you will have a good all-round car, Even better if you do those mods to a JDM twin scroll car!!!
