Default jump from 212bhp ish, to 320bhp, will i feel the difference?

hello all

i know i will noticed the difference, but would like some people to explain what it feels like going from 212bhp (standard uk turbo 2000), to say 320bhp? acceleration wise etc??

am i going to need to bring spare underwear? lol also to all the big boys with 400, 500, 600bhp this doesnt apply to you (no offence) as obviously it would be like snails pace!

Many thanks, Jamie.

Yeah, pretty much the jump I made. You'll be amazed for a while, smiles every drive. But, and this is a big but. You will get used to it and yearn for more!!

I noticed quite a difference between my 160bhp R sport and my 193bhp Mercedes B200, lol. The difference between 212 and 320 must be substantial.

A lot depends on how the car drives, I went from 225 wrx to ppp at about 265 then changed it for a jdm sti, then had that remapped to 340. However because it spools low down I really don't think it feels faster, but if you look at speedo it is. My other car a 3 door cossie at about 310 but with larger turbo and 1.7 bar of midrange boost actually feels quicker mainly due to the way it delivers the power, as this delivers the boost higher up the rev range and hits it harder, but in reality until it gets to license losing speeds it probably isn't any quicker. So if you want a car to feel faster slap on a big turbo and run higher boost as the transition between off and on boost is in my opinion what makes it feel fast.

I ve got 337bhp @1.3 bar ( from 260 @1.1) which spools at 4k, you gotta be careful mid corner in the wet........to start with anyway

mine is around 340bhp and i'd call it nippy. but the buzz won't last too long i'm afraid. not quite enough drama, my 268bhp starlet is more fierce, mainly cos it's chassis can't take the power as well, haha

Exactly my plans, my 208 bhp UK turbo will hopefully be around the 215 mark once I've fitted a td05 turbo and all the other supporting mods! Hoping it will be enough to keep me happy as I can't afford any more!

Yes you should notice quite a big difference especially if the turbo is "matched" for that power so any lag is kept to a minimum and the torque comes in at lower revs.

It's not power that you need for acceleration but torque.

Why would you want to fit a relatively "laggy" TD05 to make just 215BHP?

My original MY97 turbo 2000 was putting out 245 BHP with just a Scoobysport backbox and a K&N filter.

You need to get it remapped and run higher boost then you will see benefits of td05. Car could even end up with less power if not set up to suit mods

to get around 340, here's the spec on mine:
Walbro Pump
VF24 Turbo
Larger Top mount Intercooler off a later spec model (unsure, maybe a bugeye?)
3 Port solonoid
K&N Panel filter
Nijna single box 1st cat back exhaust system
Remapped at Chevron Motorsport by Bob Rawle

My bad, that was supposed to say 315 not 215! The cars probably at 215 already now just with the hks induction and backbox its got, eventually I want walbro pump, 440 injectors, the smaller td05 16g turbo for less lag and a full decat system, then esl daughter board map!

I'd get your UK turbo dyno'd first. You'd be suprised how much they make over the claimed official figures as standard.

Most are actually about 230bhp as standard despite being rated at 215/208bhp.

Still, a jump from 230bhp to 320bhp is still a shed load So yes, you'll feel it alright....so long as the clutch doesn't slip!!

My classic was exactly 215 with a centre & backbox change.

When I had it remapped to 273/273 it was amazingly better

Yes, had a dyno sheet stating it when I bought it. Exactly 215. Thought myself it would be about 230 but no.

The only time i was impressed was in a classic from 215 to 265, i jus couldnt believe the difference after a simple downpipe swap n remap then dyno session.

That's exactly what I was on about!

In fact if my memory serves me correctly bio, didn't you indulge in the Powerstation Group Buy that I started.....??

I had my classic remapped again after that to 325bhp by Bob Rawle after swapping to a VF35. The biggest seat of the pants dyno jump was that initial Powerstation remap though to 273
