Default probably asked millions of times before...

I have a 1998 turbo wagon, I will be honest and all i can say id that the car is a 2000 turbo awd car. Apart from that, i do not know anything more about it, what version is is etc as i am an Mg rover mechanic.. Currently has decat pipe and 3" Scorpion through exhaust and a k & n Panel filter. This is all that has been done and the car does sounds great.

I have a mate who has a focus st 225 and we had a bit of a play earlier and his was just that little bit quicker and he is a smug **** and i would like to wipe the grin off his face.

Now my question is ( if you hadnt already guessed), What is the best way to start off trying to gain a few more bhp? I am not looking for 500bhp or anything like that, just something a little extra without spendin thousands if possible. I dont think an induction kit will make much of a difference but from there i am clueless. Any advise would be much appreciated.

The easiest way to a little bit more is to have remapped.
The turbo 2000 isn't the quickest impreza out of the box to begin with.If you think you might get the modding bug in the future then you could go for an STI instead. They are a much better platform to begin with.
More power, around 60ish bhp and better torque,
Better brakes,
Forged pistons,
Stronger gearbox.
The list goes on.

Hi Chris

What sort of difference are we talking? Is this just a straight swap item?
Thanks John

The first question to find the answer to is - MY98 or MY99. This will tell you if you can simply remap or will have to replace the ECU

That sounds like Placebo at it's best - straight swap - no remap?

decat and a remap would give you 270-280bhp and would wipe the smile off his face for now but he could also do the same but he would have 300lb of torque so it depends what you want really , not sure if you can easily map the 1998 ecu you need to speak to a mapper really there is plenty on here who can help. but its a must to get yours mapped you wont believe the difference mine was awsome compared to standard

in reply to all out there having a go at me for not remaping my car,and basically saying im talking out me **se ,the first question reads , a few more bhp wanted without spending a lot of money! remaping costs maybe more than he wants to spend at moment ,as for placebo at its best,i can assure you my car felt better after i fitted a sti intercooler ! but who nows maybe it had been remapped before i got it eh?
