I find at this time of year it`s very handy for clearing the windows as opposed to just using the blowers on their own. Don`t use it too much as I believe it causes slightly more fuel consumption!

wouldnt say there are any cons on a road car... people seem to only associate air con with cooling but thats not the case. it heats aswell as cools, cracking de-humidifier in the winter. As for fuel consumption, i'd of said that was minimal

i dont think he meant that did he, well i didnt know it could heat, i know it demists your windows by acting as a dehumidifier and when the a/c is on with the heater it demists quick but it doesnt actually act as a heater

Don't see the point in removing it unless going rotated inlet manifold or something. On some cars the AC limits power by being in the way of decent sized turbos or inlet pipes when tuning but not on the Impreza.

Closer to 30 degress celcius is just painful without air con, I even use it in my BMW with the sunroof open.

3 way valves seem a little unecessary and unusual!

True summers are rubbish here but the Impreza is a greenhouse on wheels on all but the coolest days. Most people expect air con nowadays and some (including me) will not buy a daily driver without it.

Removing it will have an impact on the value of the car with minimal, if any, gains in performance.

Track/toy cars are different.

Pros

Keeps you cool
Demists the windows
Gives a nice heat in the car

Cons. There ain't any unless your building an out and out race car. A complete Ac system ain't that heavy 10 kilo max don't affect air flow to rad. Can't see any sencible reason to bin it

So on a 300 bhp newage that equates to about 2 bhp per ton Think i may aswell keep it!

I would on one of these the drag of the compresser ain't enough to increase fuel use or power drain on a little 1000cc different story

Iv never had air con on a car before this is the first one . Im usually into older cars without fangled gadgetry abs/power steering etc although i do like the fact she tells me the outside temp feel so posh with that lol.

The pulsar gtir had it from new but was removed before I bought it . my bug sti has it but i have never used it im just lugging it around but i wont remove it as its part of the car and im trying to keep the car as standard as possible.

oh i might use it as only 2bhp loss not much at all really. i just usually wind windows down and drive faster it works just as good. although i could perhaps see how it could be more useful if stuck in traffic if living in citys

I once heard that aircon when switched on can use as much as 12% of your power. Im not sure if this is still the case but in my old 170 bhp ST i could feel a performance differance with it switched off. Not the case in my scoob though, i cant feel any differance but i do have 360 bhp.

In most modern cars the air con turns off automatically at full throttle anyway.

I read an article somewhere once saying their was not much difference in mpg between using air-con or having the windows open to cool down. I like mine

They use a 4 way reversing valve, just like a split ac unit in a building

It's been tested that it's more efficient to run Ac then with the window open as window open creates more drag then the compresser does unless you have an opening rear window

On the older cars the compresser does put a huge strain on the engine but the compresses are normaly 3 times the size of a scooby

They don't

Car Ac only cools it don't heat at all. It's pleasant to use with the heating

'air conditioning' conditions the air to the required temp, hot or cold. Subaru's regulate the device to minimize power loss.
