shouldnt make much difference ? unless its running a cosworth engine ? i found this out first hand when i was thinking of selling mine with a fresh re-build,new clutch,flywheel,4xtires and still warranty on the engine ! just helps with the sale rather than increase the value ?

Thanks for the responses. I understand it is a difficult question to answer.
I am just in two minds as to whether to get a WRX or save up for longer to get an STi.

If you're getting a Bug, look very hard for rust (and remember this car was from a Subaru main dealer...)

Do a search fella.
This has been asked 100's of times before.
All you are doing is adding to the confusion.
STI's are faster, but more expensive to purchase and generally, to insure.
JDM's are better spec'd from the factory, but again, the insurance will be higher.
Is it your first performance car?
How often are you going to drive it?
Can you realistically afford 20mpg, no matter how you drive?
Engine goes bang - £2000 minimum
Gearbox goes - £600-£1000
I would always have engine rebuild money tucked away if I ever bought a scooby again.

just to throw a rod in the works, depends what you plan to do with it, and how much your gonna mod it.
no point in spending 2k extra on a car your gonna be replacing all the upraighted parts anyway
although its not that often you buy with that amount of modding, a rolling shell would be more suitable in that case.

Car is gonna be a day to day car. It'll be my only car.
No, its not my first performance car - I've had 2 cossies, a Classic WRX STi v1 (82 of 100), Octavia vRS (granted, not out and out performance, but it did go well!), Rover Turbo's (again, not out and out performance).
TBH, given the usage of the car, I'm thinking a WRX with filter / exhaust / remap will do me for day to day.. I could get a Saab 9-5 Aero, with all the mod cons, but I just fancy another Scooby - I'm hoping my first experience was a one off...

i was looking into volvo s60 t5s with exhaust , filter and remap usually sees over 300bhp insurance quotes were bang on too . the reviews are all very good and safety is up there with the best of em + all the gadgets gizmos and comfort = top choice you could get the 4wd s60r but they hold their value well and average price is around 5k + but remapped filter and exhaust only would see over 350bhp i was 27 and i got quoted 650 fully comp for an "R" thats good considering my area code .

It all depends. WRX is the cheapest of all Bugeye's. Then you have the WRX STi, JDM STi, Spec C/RA & S202.
For example you can buy a 330ci for less money compared to a M3 or CSL, however they will never be the same.
Model, specification & history all needs to be taken into account.

You wont go wrong with a Bugeye mate as they are bargain performance especially the sti. Just be patient and and look out for a car thats been well looked after and you wont go wrong. They also can take upto 450 bhp on standard engine
Bang for buck the best Impreza sti for it's money
