300BHP is it?

Do they supply an automatic beard stroking device with that then? Bet that'll be something REALLY advanced like a chip which you can pay 2000 quid for.

I guess you do mean 300BHP overall and not really a 300BHP >INCREASE< don't you? Now that would be worth paying for, 580BHP...

Jason

Through dyno runs its obvious that a UK car put out about 230bhp (quoted 215) but for standard Sti's dyno'd, 280bhp seem to be spot on & accurate so its fair to say that if they are offering a 300bhp (ie extra 20bhp) option the chances are it WILL be 300bhp rather than more than that.
It doesn't really change the grey/uk debate because Subaru will charge at least 2k for this upgrade - & if you give any of the numerous aftermarket tuners 2K then they will give you at least 300bhp on your grey import - probably a bit more.
Begs the question - will the P1 then be required to run on Super - surely it will need the extra 2RON with that sort of engine requires - though thats not a huge issue.
Also you can get 300bhp from a grey Sti with a downpipe/centre CAT replacement pipe/scoobysport exhaust fairly easily - things you cannot do to the P1 without invalidating the only BIG difference between a grey/P1 - the Subaru Warranty.

Food for thought though.

BigDaddy

Sorry i didn't get any details as to what they would be doing to get the extra power so i can't say whether its chipped or otherwise...

However, I guess what Ian said earlier may provide a hint in that there was the original rumour that the P1 would be available in 2 options... standard 280bhp and a larger P1+ with 350bhp...

The power increase then seems to point to something over 300bhp with the standard one being 280bhp.

As you say definately food for thought as it seems Prodrive/Subaru are not only after clawing back some customers who may have bought like STi 5's, but are also trying to cater for those who would have bought STi 5's and then tuned them further.

I guess its back to the old question of that warranty value..

Still i'd love to know what additional styling they are thinking of offering......

But will it carry a warranty for 300+ BHP that is the question!

Well just spoken to my dealer about the P1... as i'm having the same dilemma as a few others as to buy or wait till the new shape....

Anyway 2 things came out of the conversation with him...

a) He tells me that the official line from Subaru UK is that the next Impreza will take 2 directions. The 5 door will remain as such, an estate with guts. However, the 4 door will be pitched as a more aggressive piece of machinery. Make out of that what you will !!

More interestingly though....

b) He told me the list of options that will be available on the P1. These include

Leather Interior
Stereo system
Recaro seats
18" Alloys (?)
Extra body Styling (now tell me what else you can do !!!)

And get this....... a 300BHP power increase !

Now after seeing this.... i'm now back to thinking of getting a P1... 300bhp with a warranty and full dealer service backing... mmm can't be bad....

Ohhh well here come the sleepless nights again.....

Hmmm, only criticism is the 300BHP figure, the car is going to be close to that anyway when released (going by the STi figures) so i suspect it may be closer to the 350BHP rumour we heard earlier last year.

Yes i guess if you take the understatement of figures in normal cars then it is likely to be nearer the 350bhp...

Now that puts a whole new perspective on the P1 and STi debate...

Think i may need to reconsider my choices

So the optionally modified P1 _may_ push out close to 350bhp then. Ok. Who's going to spend the extra 5 grand prodrive will probably want for the power hike?

Jason L,

P1 at circa 350bhp, I bet it's still more expensive than an STI running circa 350bhp.

There was an STI V-Ltd pushing out 346bhp/300ftlb at the recent dyno day. It had the lightweight Type RA body too. This is fact, not enthusiastic speculation.

My dealer knows nothing of any optional performance pack for the P1.

Lets face it, until the cars available in the showrooms, March or April time, we dont even know what the standard spec is going to be, so its all wild rumour and speculation anyway.

Heritage of Leicester told me that the cars they are selling will be supplied with extra options. To increase margins I suspect.

Ian,

I think though we are starting to get to the bottom of it as apparently what i heard has come from Subaru UK....

Howvever on the grand scale of things that doesn't usually count for much.....

If they make it look like the Electra One that would be great! But the Tokyo Show one was four door.
Leather or Recaro's or is that leather recaro's.
And while they're at it a front mounted intercooler wouldn't go amiss.
I can't grow a beard ...

The only thing i liked on the Electra 1 was the quad headlamp kit they had used, with integral sidelights it looked much neater than the ones that are out there now.

I think Jason may be right.

When the P1 was first announced my dealer advised that there would be two variants, and the more powerful variant would run on 18" wheels.

My dealer was also at a meeting with Subaru this week and they gave the same info. No prices yet though

There was talk originally about a P1+, but it was apparently shelved. Perhaps the good response has prompted them to revive it.

As for the warranty, I would suspect that if it is a dealer option it will be covered. How could they not cover it?

But P1 luggage, though. What a load of w@nk!
