Default noobie - hi - my turbo popped :(

i have a 1996 sti - ive managed to bend the shaft in the turbo?

my turbo is bent and id like to replace it with the same one
spec vf23 9709
part no 14412AA172

any ideas were to get a used unit?

how on earth did you manage that ? Try the wanted section for a starters or one of the breakers who posts on here

I take it you have an MY97 version 3 STI?
You can get the odd vf23 in the for sale section, if not try somewhere like this http://www.turboactive.com/ProductPa...mSearchPage=No but note this is only a place I found on the net that sells these, I would ask someone at tyne tees scoobies or try Harvey Smith if they know this place and does it have a good reputation.

Its a good time to upgrade your turbo mate. Try an aftermarket one or a newage one instead.

vf24s and vf28s are similar turbos but will need remap, you might get away with a vf24 as a straight swap but you would have to find out of someone who knows for definate

vf35/34 newer upgrades will need remap aswell

No point in upgrading really, the vf23 is one of the bigger vf turbo's, you wouldnt be upgrading either, if anything you would require a remap (circa 500 quid for an ESL chip/map) if you changed turbo's.

its just i dont see many vf23 about these days, whats the difference between a 23/24 tony , i know its not much

Miss read that your right sorry. There are a few vf turbos in the parts section.

The 22/23 are pretty similar, the 24/28 are similar, the 22/23 have a P20 housing and the 24/28 are p18.
