depends which way you're going. Its 300 miles once you get off the ferry if you're going from Dover to Dunkerque so I normally allow 4-5 tanks. 2 to get there, 2 back and 1 while i'm there. I usually budget £500 for fuel to be on the safe side.

1 thing you need to keep in mind chap. The nurburgring calendar for 2012 isnt out yet so none of the motorsport/private event days/track closed days have been confirmed. Last year was very hit and miss for touristfharten days (public days) especially in the summer. The Nordschleife track was only open to the public for 8 days in June!

I hope you've not booked anything yet as its normally wise to wait til the full calendar is announced but as a guide you can look at the provisional 2012 calendar to see what I mean

normally 4-8 mate, depending on the weather. It was lousy last year so I only got 1 dry lap in (being cautious), the wet laps were just brutal, especially on the re-surfaced sections at Nordkehre and Schendenkreuz. 6 laps at full chat in mine is usually about a tank.

We sat in the carpark and it would be dry and sunny so would go out on a lap but then get to Adenau or the Carouselle and it would be torrential. I wasted 3 laps in the wet so called it a day once i'd got 1 lucky dry lap as it wazzed it down the rest of the weekend.

230 to a tank, is that cruising? The run from Dunkirk to the Ring is mindnumbingly boring as its all motorway/autobahn etc but its great for fuel economy. I usually get around 28mpg on the run over there, sitting at around 80 with the occasional blat if something quick wants to have a play.

I filled up at Newcastle just before going on the ferry and made it to the Ring on one tank, just!. On the way back I filled up at Adenau and managed to get to just outside Carlisle, you get a fair few more miles to the tank on the German stuff and goes to show how crap our fuel is here in the UK.
When over there I had to top up every 2 laps, if I tried a third I was getting fuel cut.
Next time I go I plan on going via Dover as the ferry was too expensive

The touristenfahrten calendar is out for May - when exactly you planning on going?. I normally fill up at the Shell just outside Dover and can to make it to the Ring on the same tank (just). But there are a few Shell stations along the route. A tank and a half each way is a safe bet.

Then 4 laps per tank, plus add a bit for driving around the local area/to hotels etc, the roads are great and demand a little bit of the old right foot now and then

Erm, no mate. Its usually about a 1200 mile trip once you get there and back + laps and enjoying the local roads. Theres no way you can get there and back on £300 at todays prices.

the only calendar out at the moment is a provisional one, the full one isnt released for about another 4 weeks.

Last year we made the mistake of booking early after checking the calendar, then had to rearrange it all coz it was closed for a week solid.

Was just looking on the Nurburgring site and see they have put the lap prices up to 26 euros (for a single, didn't see how much the multi lap passes are) so that brings the approx cost per lap to 41 euros when you factor in fuel

Chances are the 4 lap ticket will be around 100 euro's but will include a 10 euro voucher for the cafe like it did last year.

on the nurburg what does tf full day mean if its got red numbers over a green block on the calender
it says something about event does that mean the track will be open after an event has been on there

TF full day, event means that the Nordschleife is open all day, but there is an event (usually on the GP track), so it might be busier than usual.

Last year I went when the Renault World Series was on at the GP track, it was manic.

You should try and avoid event days as the hotels etc hike their prices up. Put it this way, the 1st year we went, camping at the Ring campsite was 14 euro's a night, the 2nd year we turned up on an event weekend and it was 60 euros a night!!

only sometimes, depending on the weather, accidents, staff, how the event went etc etc. I was open for about an hour 1 night that we were there and 1 morning from 8 til 1pm.

To be honest, its pot luck. Like I say, the Nordschleife will be open when theres an event on at the GP circuit, it'll just be busier.

Have a good one Fud. Have you noticed theres no F1 weekend on the calendar yet, only the truck GP?

Not sure if I'll get over this year, a couple of my usual party cant make it so we might do some uk track weekends instead.
